Cruise to the Woods
Anyone here planning on doing the cruise October 3rd? Check out the details and map at wccruisers.com. Never done it before but have friends who have and they say it's a great time. Going to make it this year weather permitting (not always best weather for verts in October). Hope to see you there!!!

Re: Cruise to the Woods
Anyone?? I just went back thru pics from last year. Only saw 4 - 3rd gens there. Need more. Check out the route maps on their web site. routes coming in from surrounding states. Last year they had over 1200 cars. Might be the last big blowout for this year!

Pics are up from 2010 cruise, follow the link. http://www.wccruisers.com/2010%20Pictures.html
Great turnout. Let's see how many can go next year. Maybe set up a meet and greet. Awesome time.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
i don't know exactly what to do with it. I had it changed up a bit. it has solid lifters in it now and different cam, little milder but not much, cost me a 1000 parts and labor, that would put me into it for 2800....and I think my dad wants to put it in his 67 camaro. decisions decisions. after i bought those headers i went back and forth between SB and LSX and ended up at LSX... LQ4 ms4 cam and other goodies to be exact.
duane, i will have some pics of mine for ya this weekend. just got done putting a hoist in my dads shop. I am from Iowa City. where is Audubon?

Re: Cruise to the Woods
I have been there every year, except last year dad had to do field work. But it is a great time, see a lot of nice cars, go on the cruise if you would want to, and meet great people. Might be going this year, so hopefully get to see some of you there.

Great looking Iroc. Also nice looking shop. Looks like a vette and maybe an old ford coupe hiding under wraps also.

Thanks, yeah once i get my rs done i will paint this one and restore it, not much to do just clean up a little bit on the under side, only has 79k on it. The others are a 67 camaro and a 32 ford cabriolet, my dad and I built it ground up when i was young, love that car, so much fun to cruise in. We call that one built ford tuff with chevy stuff.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
jake how is the S-10 coming? what's happenin with rs. Do you know of any place fairly local that does machine work on LS stuff. I know you need the special plates to bore and what not. I am trying to find a place so when i get my block i can have them check it out and spec it up for me. A guy told me about a place in davenport but forgot the name.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
yeah that's what i am going with, the 6.0 LQ4. found one in des moines on carpart.com for 400 and hopefully they will throw in the harness, can get an ecm cheap on ebay from spare ecm that has all the crap flashed out of it. bought from them before for the ls swap i did at work, also built the harness for that car from the old one. It's addicting once you do one you cant stop there.
Oh and duane i found a 92 rs hard top with that same paint scheme that it a 305 5 speed car with on 70k. they want 5000 for it in northern iowa.

Sounds interesting. A little more than I paid for my vert, but it has less miles and is a 5 speed. What part of northern Iowa is it in?

Re: Cruise to the Woods
duane found the ad again, it was in the hawkeye trader booklet that you would see in a gas station. the name of the dealer is preferred auto sales, they are in lockridge iowa which is in between fairfield and mount pleasant not northern iowa like i thought. the website is preferredautosales.net. it only has 67k on it thought it was 76k. man i wish i had the cash i would go buy it up. this would be an awesome collection for you having a vert and hardtop 5 speed car with the same paint job.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
I havent been to this show in a couple years because I had a little one come along. I will be going this year. So far they have a record 606 preregister for the show and a whole lot more will show up to register at the show. They take up almost all of the Fort Dodge fair grounds.
For those that are going, what route will you be on or where will you be starting out at? I will be starting from the route in ames and I hope a friend of mine will be able to bring his car along as well.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
Well, I didn't see you in stratford but I did think i see you come into the fairgrounds in fort dodge but lost you after that. I did hear that there was 830ish cars just on the cruise. Did you hear at all how many cars in total? I dont remember it being this big in the past years. Had to leave a little early. My daughter got sick so I had to leave. I hope to get the pics that I took up in the next few days. Way to many cars to see but it was awesome and the weather couldn't have been better. Love going on the cruise all the way up to Fort Dodge and can't wait for next years show.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
Gambit, I may have seen your firebird in Stratford if it is red. I got there about 10:50 and only had time to spot 1 third gen firebird (red) and about 6 camaros. Was a great cruise and awesome weather. They said at the awards they were estimating around 1500 cars that registered. Can't wait till next year!

Nope, my car is a black KITT conversion with a ram air 2 hood on it. I got parked on the back side of one of the buildings. I was parked 2 cars down from the gold Diablo. Really wished I could have gotten a pic of my car with the General Lee. Kitt and the General Lee would have been a great photo shoot.

I was about a block west of the grocery store in Stratford and clear out in the field at the fairgrounds. About a hundred feet from the back gate. Sorry I missed you. There were a lot of 3rd gens there.

Great pics. You actually ended up with part of my camaro in a couple of your pics, numbers 198 & 199. You were actually focusing on the saleen mustang beside it.

Re: Cruise to the Woods
Now that I look at the pics I do see it. I was right next to it and never really seen it. I was trying to get pics of all the third gens that I seen and dont know now I missed yours. Would love to see pics from the people who were taking pics when we went through the state park. Those would be nice to see. I found out I work with a guy that does aerial photography. I think it would be cool to either have an aerial pic of either stradford when all the cars get there or one over the fair grounds with all or at least most of the cars still there. Might find out what he charges for photos like that.
