Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
my pride and joy was stolen last night in newark NJ last nite when i was staying at my gf's apt. located on MLK BLVD. i would appreciate it if ppl who tow in the area would be on the lookout. i have around 30,000$ into the car, along with a custom anti-theft device which i designed with my dad. car could have been towed away.
heres a picture of the car.
its a 87 firebird formula 350, has a 8pt roll bar, racing seats/harness, 383 HSR, ram air II hood, HIDs with projectors. its BLACK, has SLP ZR1 front rims and mustange anthracite rear rims. dual 3" exhaust LOUD as hell. 800$ worth of gauges and wideband. custom ford 8.8 for tq arm setup etc.
please keep your eyes out. im ready to kill someone

Every city I've ever been to whether its out in the sticks or in the largest cities in America has an MLK BLVD, Dr. Cr. St. etc. and in EVERY SINGLE instance I've seen the area was ghetto as hell. I wouldn't have driven anything but a $400 beater into the area.
Unless your city is some rare exception to the rule, I can't fathom why you would have driven the car there. Either way good luck in retrieving your ride man.
I also have to ask, why did you have different rims on the front and rear?

rear rims are mustang rims, they have a different lug pattern 5x4.5" vs the chevy 5x 4.75". the rear is a ford 8.8 so instead of me converting to chevy bolt pattern on the axles i got rims that would fit the rear of the car. i was planning to change the fronts to ford as well with an adapter. an adapter on the rear would have made it impossible to fit rims on since the ford 8.8 was already 3" wider than my stock 9bolt.
thanks everyone, it sucks huge B ALLS! i have over 25 grand in her and just installed the HIDs. the car does stick out which is why i think ill never get her back, the person that stole her got around my anti-theft and didnt break any glass or anything. The car is prob in a garage already or in a container being shipped over seas... as sad as it is.

Im sorry to here they got you. jersey thieves tried to get my 01 ws6 twice the second time they followed me home and tried to break into my garage to get it.
Then the first day I had my 89 formula 350 out they tried to steel it at island beach state park.
I hope you get it back.

it is the ghetto kinda... its a newer development. but its still in SHlTTY newark. i had to park it outside bc they tow inside the gated development. but there are a ton of newer cars like BMWs and toyotas, hondas etc outside so im sure the person that wanted my car must have been after my car only. my gf also lives 4 min from my job and i dnt hit 30min of traffic driving to work in the AM if i stay at her apt the night before.

they used to be but now there are not so many of them around but theives remember how easy they are to steal that is why the best 80 buck I ever spent was on the auto lock pro. It is a lock that you can put over the brake or over the clutch.

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
thanks guys. car had liabilty insurance only .
the parts arent highly sought after... i mean firebird parts arent the money getters but the hood was a 800$ peice alone. besides the wheels, suspension and drivetrain the body is stock. all the money was in the good stuff.
well i have an update. apparently NJ police wont contact u if they find your car.... lucky someone told me to call them everyday today bc they wont call me... so i did and apparently they FOUND MY CAR!!!! trying not to get too excited bc i have NO idea wat conditon its in. the police werent able to tell me anything over the phone, and i called the towing place where its being held and unfortunatly they were closed and werent able to tell me anything. so they have the car but no news on the cars shape . Also newark police didnt find the car, it was the essex county police apparently bc they have towing with a different company than the newark police. im hoping for the best but im sure it will be bad.
your right its not a car for newark... which is why i kept it outa newark for 6yrs... but the nice weather and i love driving it got the best of me. i figured someone musta been eyeing it bc it was only being parked there for a couple of days before.
ill let everyone know the results tmrw. does anyone know what they charge for towing if your car is stolen? ima be pissed if the car is gutted and i have a 400$ towing fee

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
yea hopefully it was a joy ride and they didnt crash it or blow the engine etc. car is very angry when u hit the throttle and a young lil retard will get the a$$ end to swing around and total the car. i have no idea where they found it or anything so well see. i think the essex sherif department patrols the parks and stuff... so idk.
if they got pulled over i hope i get to see them bc there not getting away easily. ppl like this deserve to get beat. 200$ is cheap lol... i got towed once in a lot and they just put the car on the truck (even made me unlock the doors or they were gona charge me 60$ to jimmy it lol) and it cost me 300$... car never left the lot! id take 200$ but i just hope most of the car is there, at least the drivetrain

Cause if it was towed, its gonna be a gutted shell that they dumped in a park.
Id find out where it is and go spying into the lot before you even talk to anyone to know what your dealing with.
And the police wont check but if you do tihnk it was towed, call towing places and ask if they did the tow. You would think not but they sometime use a regular tow place as they don't ask for proof of ownership. They will tow anything anywhere, long as you pay and ask very little. Its a really old scam.

Though everyone should watch out, I just went off 2 days ago on a guy for reposting the info on camaro5.com on how to easily steal a 82-92 Camaro/Bird
Its been passed around all over the net latley on those prank sites, n some folks actualy did it to friends to screw with them.

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
so that car is a mess... they destroyed my HID covers and ripped the HIDs out, then engine is gone, the trans is gone. they took the radiator and cooling fans. took my aluminum overflow tank, the cut all the wiring in the engine bay as well as the battery and all the relays and such. they broke the front bumper cover, scratched up the underside of the ram air II hood. and took my custom made 3pt STB for the HSR. they stole my true dual exhaust with the wideband sensor still in it. and took my jegster drive shaft saftey loop, as well as the driveshaft.
now on to the rest of the car. they put a hole in the door around the lock, they messed up the steering column. They ripped out the radio and stole my ECM with the moates chip/adapter and my extreme ALDL connecter. they stole my door speakers, rear cargo speakers and found my MTX amp in the back quarter and took that. they also decided to pop the lock in trunk as well.
good news... they left the gauges alone, left the drag seat and racing harnesses alone. they left the suspension alone, this includes the ZR1 rims up front and the 17x10.5" anthracite rims out back. they left the ford 8.8 in the car and left my UMI double rod end LCAs/panhard bar alone, as well as my custom adjustable TQ arm. front suspension and brakes all fine as well as the hotpart adjustable strut tower bearing caps. they left the hood but runined the hood hinges. and didnt mess with the interior.
basically im out a engine/trans now and the car has to be rewired. any good wiring kits? im thinking of just ditching it all and going with a basic painless kit and just run a carb.

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
nope. got the car back. they punchured the door around the door lock and got in. then they tried to start it... but couldnt! so apparently the anti theft device worked, bc they tried tearing the steering column apart. car must have been towed outa the spot... rear bumper was completely destroyed and has holes in it, rear lights are cracked and all scratched up.
In any case if they were real pro's nothing would of ever been found.
Id bet money thought that you have meet them before, maybe at a car show, a friend of a friend, someone had to of known most of your setup to target it and just take some but not all of it.
A real pro chop shop would of left nothing to be found as they wouldn't be after some of it, they would part n sell it all out.
Could even be someone on this site.
Though in the end id be more careful about revealing how nice your stuff is to anyone, anyhwere, even here. I wouldn't even show my bestfriend how I disable my car. Everyone brags n talks sooner or later.
PM me for an anti tow tip if your intrested.

lol i kno u hate my pop up deletes but i will only be making them again! so well see wat u have to say when i redesign them lol.
EFI was very challenging to tune... not to mention very expensive to get to work over a carb setup. my EFI intake once complete intake only i put around 1060-1200$ and that doesnt include the moates stuff that cost over 200$. then u have to include sensors for the intake, a wideband to tune etc. vs throwing a carb intake 200$ and a carb for 300-400$ and calling it a day. so like 2000$ for EFI or 500-600$ for carb? my problem now is that the EFI harness is completely destroyed and im missing 50% of it so add the cost of a EFI harness to that bill.
im convinced they werent pros but they took care of my gauges... they didnt destroy my panels to get the gauges out or destroy the connectors to the gauges when disconnecting the radio/center console gauges. they knew wat they wanted. no one knew how to start my car and i kept it that way. i guess sharing information to benefit the site/other 3rd gen owners could be a hazard.

Did the cops find who stole the car? did they print it? anything?
Since your car was found, there's bound to be SOMETHING that would lead them to the theives... one would think. hmmmm.

man that suck, sorry to hear the drivetrain is gone and they butcherd up the wiring. Props for not giving up on the car though. Just a shame that after all the work and $$, you have to start over.
its already been said, but since teh drivetrain is out and the wiring needs to be redone anyway, maybe pickup a lsx swap.

how can you talk about rebuilding it. you've got some head. I'd kill myself after all that into it.
I wish the worst luck for people like that though. I don't know why no evidence of the thieves were acknowledged.

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
thanks guys... its been worse the last 2 days since ive had the car back... looking at what they did and i started pulling her apart again. the engine/trans might be going into another 3rd gen tho... i figure since they look my 3pt STB i made for my HSR that it must be going into a 3rd gen since thats all it would fit, and same goes for my specific jegster drive shaft saftey loop as well as the trans cross member.
the wiring is gone... they cut everything in the engine bay.... there are no connectors left. so my new thing is wiring, wat should i get? i thought about the LS swap as well as another TPI type setup... but i can get a 460 BBF for FREE! complete with a trans lol... sooooo id hate to say it but im seriously considering it lol.
im weighing my options and money is insane tight right now since ive been saving/buying parts for the car over the past 6 yrs. but going small block or LS with fuel injection would be mucho $$ and the power levels would be even if not less to what i was putting out with the 383. soo i can make a 460 ford pump out 600hp/600tq with under 3 grand into it.
once factor is getting the darn thing to bolt in lol and the other is the electrical aspect. say i get the engine/trans to fit, then the wiring should be figured out. i like the stock interior gauges/lights/ power windows etc and i would like to keep them... but is there any way i can convert the engine bay to a carb setup wiring? like keep the interior stuff working like normal but get a kit from painless or soemthing to run old school carb setup/lighting in the engine bay?
obviously going to a ford engine/trans will require some compensation... prob swap out the speedo/tach for some universal stewart warner 5" gauges since im running all stewart warner gauges anyway.

i was told they dont take prints off the car unless it was a jacking or i was held at gunpoint/knife etc... otherwise they just do a report and call it a day.
im keepin my eye out for the parts to surface. but otherwise theres nothing to do... car was found in a park.

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
besides being in the wrong place at the wrong time and thinking i could have something nice in my area... there wasnt much i could do. i had security measures but theres nothing u can do when they try to tow it, maybe ill carry a chain and ill chain it to a light pole or something lol.
the way i see it is that i cant let them take it all from me... they got my hard earned money and time but i got my car, that still has 15grand in suspension upgrades/safety equipment/ guages and i wanna have fun. so now im gona do it better and more crazy. then i wont park it outside for them to take it and ill have more security ....
u can bet your *** im gona have this!

No to the light pole but I have seen cars chained the sewer gates. good luck towing that. Keeping it in a garage is only half the battle you will need all the anti theft stuff you would use on the street + anti theft the garage as well. the theives in nj are scum and they will try to steal it out of the garage.

Re: Stolen firebird northern NJ/newark area. stolen between 10pm-7am last night
The lesson here is to never park your car anywhere on MLK in ANY city. Its always ghetto and scary. I also find it best not to daily drive anything you'd be seriously upset about losing. My thirdgen wouldn't ever get driven to anywhere I'd stay overnight where I couldn't park the thing in a garage. I'd also never drive it in rough parts of town where I'd have to get out of the car and leave it for more than 20 minutes.

No the lesson here is if you have 30K into your car. have it appraised have and get an agreed valve insurance policy. Its pennies on the dollar compaired to how much $ we spend on our toys.

and NO they don't have a limited miles thing......

3) What is Agreed Value?
An Agreed Value Policy as opposed to a Stated Value or Actual Cash Value Policy is the only way to know in advance how much you will receive from an insurance company if your car is destroyed or stolen. With Agreed Value you will get the amount listed on your policy and it is also the basis of your premium.
You can predetermine the value of your vehicle. Once our underwriting team has agreed to this amount, it becomes the coverage limit of the policy term. In the event of a total loss, this amount is paid, with no deductible in most states.

8) How many miles can I drive my car each year?
Unlimited - The Grundy Family owns cars dating back to 1909, and recognizes that an attempt to monitor or audit mileage would be nearly impossible. In addition, the Grundy's personally drive thousands of miles a year in organized touring events and simply enjoying and maintaining their cars. You can too!
