SF bay area
so i just got this 86 z28 acouple months ago and now im planning on doing all the stuff that needs to be done
oil change
radiator flush
spark plugs
spark plug wires
distributor cap
put some header wrap
change a loose alternator belt
check out the e brake that wont work
so i was wondering if any of you guys could show me the ropes around these cars. i previously owned an acure integra so im not really familiar with these engines. maybe a meet or something?

Since I'm pretty local I have to pipe up. To be honest, I pay someone to wrench on my car. I know just enough to be dangerous and could disable my daily driver if I wasn't careful. Sadly, I miss out on all that fun associated with doing your own work.
The guys in this forum will be helpful with answers to questions when you have them. We can't help it!

Well, that was the short version.
Long version is, there's nothing to it but to do it, grab a manual and some wrenches and have at it. Those are ALL very easy fixes that are common when you get a new used car.
No need to try and set up some meet and as a newbie IMO you should put less effort into creating one and more into showing up to one.

exhaust leak
jumpy electrical system
no a/c
dirty coolant
used to misfire
no e brake, so i cant jack it up on jack stands

Most exhaust leaks are just lose bolt. If you live in the bay area, does it really get "hot?" You should just delete it(AC), fixing it would get pricey quick.
I recommend using seafoam in the engine to clean out any gunk built over the years. I works pretty good. Search it.
You don't need the e-break to put the car on stands. A lot of guys buy Rhino ramps.
Jumpy electrical system, well you'll have to be more specific on that one. Just remember the car is 21yrs old, it's going to have it's issues. Most likely battery cables or the hacked up stereo/alarm job.

Yeah, you're less than 500 bucks away from a low maintenance car!
The e-brake cable may be your issue with that. That's a special order from Kragen or something. Rear disks or drums?

i lived in daly city as well and i need major help guys. im get ready to do a swap. i just bought a 305 off of craigslist and my car has the v6 231 in it now. urbanhunter44 i'll drive out to concord anytime and bring a 6 pack with me . i only have the engine now and im bout to buy a computer off of ebay. i cant drop the motor yet so in the mean time untill i get everything that i need for the swap. for now i would just like to tune my car up with the v6 in it now. this will be my 1st swap and im in way over my head on this 1. i know we have tons of threads about doin a swap but its better for me to work with 1 person at least for problem solving and installing parts etc. guys send me a pm or reply here im really in need of major help thanks. even if your not an engine swap guy but if you know basic meachanics for tune-ups and things like that hit me up.

V6-V8, watch out for the smog ****'s. Well, the mpfi to tpi is a little easier. Just add an two extra injectors and prom change. Of course you'll need all the basic tpi stuff.
The way I learned to work on my Camaro was just asking my neighbor. He would let me know what I should do.
youngdeezt & thelusivetoilet, buy a repair manual! It'll make things a lot easier. I bought a chilton for $5 at a local swap, the hayes I acquired from my other neighbor who doesn't need any more.

yeah im gonna buy a chilton tomorrow. im waitin on this guy with the cherry picker so i can get the engine out the back of the truck and into the garage. its 305 buildin time now

Wow, just tried to go to Craigslist.com and I accidentily typed craiglist.com and ended up at a **** site, lol.
Definately get a Chilton's, makes a world of difference. Chilton's are better than the Hanes books.
