What kind of bad habits?
I live literally 1000 yards from about 3-4 paint shops. San Mateo may be far for you and I don't know your price range.
You a squid or a coastie?

What do you describe as "bad habits"?
Do they forget to floss after brushing ot do they only use the unofficial non-Bondo brand Bondo?
AFAIK every shop has stuff that they will cut corners on, quality is all dependent on how much you are willing to pay.
If you're that concerned about it paint it yourself.

A squid is a Navy man and a coastie is a Coast Guard sailor.

Look up / talk to a local Mom & Pop body shop.
They usually have higher prices but you can talk to them beforehand and see the setup they have, and they will usually take more time on your car there. Plus it will be local to you.

Summit Paint and Body
They don't have a web site but stay real busy. In the lobby there is an album of the cars they've worked on that include a bunh of classics.
If you end up coming out here, let me know. I can keep tabs on them while they work for you.

My neighbor is really good. He lives in Concord. Mostly works on older muscle cars and stuff but will take on anything. He did a decent amount of work to my Camaro. Fair pricing as well. He runs his business from his house. PM me if you want his number.

Re: paint shops in the bay area?
There's a super-excellent high quality detail guy in Novato. My buddy that only works on restoration rebuilds (cars so good, they show up in car magazines) sent me down for some insurance work and it was absolutely perfect........ Normally I do my own paint, but use this guy for blending. Nitro
