Question
The 9 bolt in my car want BOOM. I got a parts car, a 1990 RS with a ten bolt. The 10 bolt has drum brakes, can I swap the disc brakes from my 9 bolt onto the 10 bolt? With my luck I am guessing not, but I'm holding out a slim piece of hope. If not, what are my other options on getting some disc brakes? Thanks for any help.

Re: Question
don't see why not, people upgrade their brakes all the time. I've never done it though on a thirdgen so I'm not too familiar with the differences in the two setups so I'm not the one too ask.

Re: Question
If your discs are the PBR aluminum caliper style (should be, since your car is an '88), then all you need are 10-bolt caliper mounting plates from an 88-92 car. Last I checked they were still available through dealerships pretty cheap (they are just stamped steel). You will need to modify the flanges on the axle housing by sawing part of them off (you need to make them a square, so you cut off the top triangular part) and drilling two holes on each side using the new backing plate as a template. Then you need to transfer your brake lines, and bleed the system, and that's it.
So yes, you can.

Re: Question
If you don't mind me asking, what were you doing when it went clang? How many miles? Is your motor stock? Just curious as my IROC has a 9 bolt and rolled over 225k and is fairly mild.

Re: Question
I was leaving a parking lot, gave it about half throttle as I was turning right. It has about a 150k with a stock 350. I've done quite a few burnouts in my time, but still wasn't expecting this. There had been no previous noises, so clanks, rattles, or humming. So it was quite unexpected.

Re: Question
its better and easier to just get a replacement 9 bolt or 10 bolt already setup for disc brakes

Re: Question
And a kit to match from Ed Miller:
Hassle Free drum to disks
I love my brakes from Ed. With the addition of the rear disks next week, should drive like a whole new car.
