Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF not legal in CA?

I was at my local Kragen/O'Riley's in Hanford to pick up some Mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid. When I went to the shelf, the section for Mobil 1 was completely empty and there were no cases around to break open. I went to the counter to ask if they had any more in the back. The guy at the counter told me that he had some but he couldn't sell it to me. I asked why. He said that they were told to pull it from the shelves earlier this week because it was no longer legal to sale in CA. He said it was because of CA emissions. Has anyone heard of this? My next question is how does tranny fluid affect emissions? Its not like its getting into the intake/exhaust of the engine. I left Kragen and went a block down the road to Pep Boys and they had three and a half cases sitting on the shelf so I bought what I needed.

NANCY PELOSI does not have any stock in mobil . if so it would be almost all you could buy in your state . good luck .

Re: Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF not legal in CA?

It has to do something with it being labeled wrong. Atleast thats what I heard, haven't heard the whole reason behind it. I work for Autozone and the EPA fined 2 of the stores in the Sacramento area, 1 for Mobil ATF and another for Lucas ATF

X2. I work for O'Reilly and we just pulled it from our selves for improper EPA certifications. I have been told by people higher in the food chain that this is most likely temporary.

I am not certain what lowering of quality you are referring to. we have much of the same lines and most that have changed are the same or gotten better. There are better pricing options and more parts in stock compared to our Kragen days. If you feel screwed, I am certain there is someone you could talk to in SD.

Sounds like I'll be running to Pep Boys in the morning to pick up a few more quarts just to be sure I have enough while its still on the shelf.

Re: Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF not legal in CA?

From searching it looks like it's because of the VOC (volital organic compound). Just more of the stupid stuff from Ca.

Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento give the rest of our great state of California a bad name.

Where did you find that info at? I looked around the net yesterday but couldn't find anything.

BTW, I swung by Pep Boys this morning and picked me up a case, just in case.

Re: Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF not legal in CA?

This is how I found it!

I have been all over California and in general I like the state. The problems I've had is San Francisco trying to eat at Fisherman's Wharf and a sticking bum or I should say bums all over the place, the taxes are way too high and the Ca. DOT. They are the most ticket happy of any state when it comes to trucks and that stupid split speed limit. It's not safe for cars to do 70 to 85 and trucks only doing 55. If we go 61 you can bet we will get pulled. I had a mudflap bracket fall off my trailer and was driving to Barstow to get it fixed. I was pulled and given a fix-it ticket. I was unable to get the bracket fixed but I did fix the mudflap so the trailer had one. I was in Fresno and pulled in for a "random" inspection. The DOT officer tried to write me up for the mudflap again. But after I told her she would have to sign off on it because the flap was replaced and it's legal she asked a supervisor and he agreed. She didn't like that. She then tried to write me up for logbook falsification. I had to show Essex Ca that I had stopped. She told me that no town by that name is in Ca. I then told her to read the ticket that she just had to sign off and look at the town. WOW it's Essex Ca. I have even been told by a DOT Inspector to take off my turn signals lights on my mirrors because they are illegal. But only in Ca. are they illegal.

From ExxonMobil:

"Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF has not been recalled. It is, however, temporarily
unavailable for sale in the state of California. We can assure you that
there are no performance or safety concerns with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
ExxonMobil stands behind this product. Thank you for your interest and
loyalty."
