Emissions in Illinois--

Not sure if anyone has seen this or can verify this.
I read this write up in the local rag and thought it may be of significance to people in the region.
This will only apply to people in Lake County--

Source: Waukegan News-Sun 1-29-07 Internet posted article.

Emissions test waived for old autos

January 29, 2007
NEWS-SUN STAFF REPORT
Some Lake County residents with older cars are among those about to get a big break with regard to vehicle emissions testing.

Those who own 1995 or older vehicles -- with current vehicle emissions compliance certificates that expire after January of this year -- will no longer need to bring their cars in for testing effective Feb. 1.

Exempt status will automatically be applied to those vehicles.

Owners of 1996 and newer model cars will still be subject to testing. Owners of 1995 and older model cars that have not yet passed their most recent emissions test or received a waiver will still be required to test their vehicles.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced the change to the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Law on Thursday.

The testing program change results from on-board diagnostics systems on 1996 and later model cars that automatically monitor emissions-related components and notify the driver of problems by activating the "check engine light."

Motorists with questions about the changes in the emissions program can call the Illinois EPA at (847) 758-3400.

I wonder what they'll do for cars that haven't passed emissions recently. It'd be sweet to go tune the race car on the street

as long as the last time they told you to bring the car out they didnt fail you or suspend the plates.

THIS IS FOR EVERYONE

The BEST way of getting around this is to change the title and registration to some one else's name after Feb 1st and THEN change it back, it is expensive and kind of drawn out, but it will get the car out of the system and by that point in time you wont have to worry about testing it!!!

CONFIRMED

I got a call from the IL EPA today at work and this is the deal:

pre ob2 cars will be EXEMPT from emision testing after thier final test this year.
AS of this month (Jan.1) the final test will not be a dyno test, ONLY an idle test, once passing the idle test your car is forever exempt

They are sending me a newsletter with all the exact deatils, i'll scan it and post it once I get it

The main reason for eliminating ob1 testing is because less and less are on the road each year and the cost to build ONE dyno test lane is $50,000.

well a 327 can always be stroked to a 350 if need be. well if the 327 is not all what it is cracked up to be, there happens to be a 396 sitting around somewhere.

Recent changes to the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Law of 2005 provide that vehicles of model year 1995 and older that are in compliance with the law as of February 1, 2007, will no longer be subject to emissions testing..........thank the heavens above
