Bad night at the track, but raced some COOL cars

I had a bad night at the track last night. Only got in 3 runs b/c there were a lot of cars there and someone spilled oil on both lanes and it was shut down for 1 hour.

First race was against a slicked 67 Stang. I ran my best 60' ever with a 1.710. I was shifting early to see if it helped my times b/c some of the guys on corvetteforum said I was shifting too high at 6000 rpm, but it slowed me down shifting sooner and I ran a 12.43 @ 108.17.

2nd race was against a slicked old school Pontiac. Not sure if it was a GTO or LeMans. I ran a horrible 1.97 60' and barely beat him running my worst ever 12.9 @ 107.90 to his 13.0. I also shifted up into 3rd gear and didn't realize it for a second or 2 and had to downshift into 2nd and then back into 3rd, that KILLS your times!

Last race of the night was against an 89 Turbo TA! It was awesome to line up next to one. I eased into the throttle and ran a 1.74 60' and blew his doors off. I shifted into 3rd again from 1st gear and had to do the downshift to 2nd and then back to 3rd thing again I only ran 12.64 @ 108.83, but I smoked his 13.5 @ 101.53.

So, NOT a good night for me driving-wise. It's a shame, it was 40* cooler than when I ran my 12.39 @ 109.53 and I was expecting some 12.2x's at 111. But I blew it. Still had fun against some awesome cars though.

Sounds like it's time to invest in a new shifter. A ratchet shifter, B&M Megashifter being the most popular, would be the best but a gate shifter will also work fine. Both will prevent you from shifting past the gears.

Yeah, I have a Hurst Dual Gate but I have to adjust it so the gates are right. I have just been upshifting it on the regular side. It's very touchy.

Damn, I was hoping you'd be in the 11s by now.

But still, those times are nothing to be ashamed of...good job!

I use a BM Pro Ratchet. It's a great shift, never miss a shift, bang it as hard as you want shifter, BUT i hate how you have to bang the shift twice to go from R to P and P to R.

Just my .02, but mine is mostly a street car.

No, I was pissed that I was blowing it on such a perfect (weather-wise) night. I left after the race, it was the end of the night anyway. I believe it was bone stock, it looked mint.
