first 1/4 mile times with stock engine.
well just for $hits and giggiles I went to pick up a friend of mine at a local r!cer car show that they were having in a parking lot.
well guess what they had there? a dyno. I thought cool why not, I need a base line for when I start to mod the car in a few weeks.
well before I tell you what my times where, I tell you some of the funny things I saw. I saw a civic hatchback (old model) run 18s
saw a 1st gen DSM run 14s and another 1st gen DSM run 17s when he busted his radiator. saw a early to mid 90s cobra get a 13.4 and the best run that I saw that night was a 4th gen formula run a 12.2 , people did say he was spraying though.
put my car up there and I was expecting mid to high 14s (stock 350) (auto)
I ran a 15.1 @90 MPH all three times. 60' times where 2.1
could I have done better? I tried doing a power launch (whatever you call it) braking then reving up to about 2500RPM and launching but that still got me a 15.1.
any ideas on how to launch on a dyno? (i'm doing another one on the 4th)
between now and then I'll have
heddmans headers/ y-pipe
high flow cat
hooker cat back
K&Ns
airfoil
and I need a new transmition mount (it's knocking when I launch hard, no big deal)
oh and some SFCs
what would be my times be then?
thanks

i ran a 15.3 my first time with my car..
i got my launching squared away and my 60 foot down a bit. and i ran 14.5's, its alittle quicker when the engine temp is lower.
with those mods and a lower 60 foot i bet you will be at least mid 14s, most likely lower 14s. thats my guess..

I always thought a dyno was a type of machine that recorded your hp/tq ratios along with other information. I didn't know you could run the 1/4 on it?
Other wise, brake torqueing to 2500 seems a little too much to me. I start spinning around 2k. Don't know how you can get that high.
You said you have a stock 350. 15.1 at 90 mph. What year is your car? I think your times a little slow and your mph is definatly low. Have you had a full tune up lately?

yea it was $25 for the 1/4 times and $50 for both 1/4 and HP
Ive got a 88 IROC that had a 305 TPI in it that was replaced with a Reman 350 about 4 months ago. installed buy the dealer.
so I beleve that all plugs and wires were replaced, I do have a new fuel filter (less than 8 months old) stock air filters is if not clean then in decent shape. new engine has less than 3K miles tranny has 35,000 miles on it.

If I could get my 60' down and with those mods I'd like low 14s
well it was my first time on a dyno so alittle slow was understandable, but when the guy said 15.1 I was like damm that was slow........

I doubt a dyno will give an accurate ET since the car is stationary. Too many factors will affect the ET in a real pass. The dyno can't take into consideration weight transfer which could give better 60' times.
Track conditions can be good or bad. Weather can affect a pass. A head wind will slow you down and a tail wind will make you go faster. There's also the wind resistance going down the track.
Since dyno's record torque and HP is a calculated number from the torque then that's what the dyno will give you. ET/MPH is calculated on a power to weight ratio. Was your car weighed before the dyno run? 250 HP in a 3000 pound car is quicker than 250 HP in a 3800 pound car.
Use the dyno as an estimate only until you actually go down the track. If the dyno says you do 15.1 then race the dyno.

I put down 3,600 lbs, seemed about right.

Those times seem about right. I just ran mine couple months ago and i got 14.9s. So i say u did pretty well for stock. Also it was cold when i ran my car, id say in the 40s. So that helped i think a bit, the wind i think was against us, not sure.
