PINKS!!! Please Read!!!!
Alright, this may be a crazy idea but I was thinking about the season finale of pnks, specifically the beetle. A bunch of people from the same forum rounded up a bunch of old parts and built a wicked fast beetle. I thought this would be sweet. But I want to specifically race a Fox Body Stang. On the pinks application form you can choose a person or vehicle type that you want to race and i think this would be the race of all races. I know I am kind of stealing someone elses idea but if our side won, I thought we should sell the car on ebay and donate the money to a charity. I dont have one in mind but a good one would be for the families of a soldiers over seas. What I want to know is if anyone else is interested in this and if they are what parts do you have to donate. If you do have some parts list them on here not in PM so everyone can see. I actually have a donor car unless someone has one better. The one I have is an 85 Iroc that is decent looking but it was rough at one time and somebody did body work with aluminum patch panels so we would already be saving weight. Also, if no one is interested and thinks it is a crazy idea feel free to let me know, but could you imagine the thought of a group of people from Thirdgen.org building a car and possibly winning, plus we get to be on TV. Let me know, Thanks

Forgot to add, if anyone wants to see the Iroc, go to cardomain.com and search member name Will_Power and it is on the 3rd page.

I dont expect anyone to donate their money or parts if they dont want to. Likeenz has the right state of mind. He may not want to use his parts but he will help with the build. I guess I should narrow the board down to Indiana third gen people who might want to help.

I think it's a good Idea. You wouldn't have to build it yourself if one of the sponsors stepped up to put it together with the donated parts. Just think of the advertising exposer they would get on national TV with their name on the side of the car. Donating to the families of those who are serving or lost members in the miltary overseas is one of the noblist charties you can think of. I have a Dart dual plane airgap manifold I'm not using that I would donate if it got off the ground and the builder wanted it. It can be plumbed for a fogger nitrous system.

A lot of the cars on that show now are damn close to 8 second cars, that 4th gen that ran the big block Nova was probably making 1000 horsepower.
While it sounds like a great idea, I don't think many people on here have a set of forged pistons/rods, an aftermarket block or a $4000 set of SB2.2 heads they want to donate to the cause.
Face it, the volkswagen probably weighed 2000 pounds less than a comparable 3rd gen.

i appreciate the support so far. If we get this going I will contact everyone directly. I am in columbus indiana which is about 50 miles south of indy. I go to edgewater over near cincy alot. I had thought about doing an LSx swap or a bid cubed small block. If anyone has any ideas or directions to go let me know. Thanks
----------
Also, I think most of the cars on pinks are in the 9 range. I would hate to think the VW beetle forums can build a faster car easier then we could, if that is the case my GTA is up for trade for a RABBIT!!! HaHa

Not disrespect to you, but I have givin up on that show, when it started out they had a good idea, then, the whole thing started to get so commercialized, and i understand that is how they keep the $$ coming into make the show, I just don't like it! Also I was looking for a spot on there website to complain about the show, actually one thing in particular. It's one thing to know that people are using torches to heat up NOS bottles, it's anothere thing to show it on national television to a bunch of people who are watching and are just starting to learn about NOS. Then, they don't make a disclaimer about it!!! If the tech officials ever saw anyone doing that at my local track they would be bounced out of there so fast it wouldn't be funny. Ok i'll stop my rant now, just had to get that out, hopefully someone else has seen what i'm talking about.
Good luck on the build though! I would donate some time if it wasn't for the 4-6 hr drive it would take me to get over to you in IN.

Alot of the cars on there are race shop cars.
Its a fantastic marketing scheme to be honest. You basically get 30 minutes on a show with great ratings, displaying your products to a audience that really cares about what you sell.
My dad bought a BullyDog chip for his diesel truck based on their reputation in the market and for how fast their truck was on Pinks. The guy from BullyDog said their sales went up $2m/month since that show aired.

You said what I was thinking. I am no expert of anything. "Jack of all trades but master of none". I may not be compitent enough to do every single thing in the world but between me and a couple of my friends, we have built about five cars in the high 9 low 10 range and all of them have been N/A. Throw a little nitrous on them and we could be talking about some consistent 8 sec passes. The only reason I approached this the way I did is because everyone who has watched the show has wondered what it would be like to go on , but none of us want to lose our cars. This way, someone may lose an intake, and another a crank, but if they laying around and planning on going to the swap meet next month, oh well, ya know.

hey guys important i talked to nate pritchett and he said...well heres my email first
"Some of the members on the Thirdgen.org website are thinking of
getting together and building a car to race on Pinks, alot of them
know what their doing and I'm taking the initiative to contact you and
see if there is any way they can get sponsors. They were thinking of
doing something like the last episode of last season, selling the car
on ebay and donating to charity. They can probably gather parts up
from people and put em together but a sponsor would much easier.
Thanks and Also I loved your Mustang race, pretty sweet."
and his response
"I'm definitely interested. How much time do you need to get your sponsors lined up and have the car built? We just got picked up for season 4 but we don't haver our shoot schedule yet. Let me know what you think."
so what should I tell him or????????

Sounds like it is time to get firm commitments from the forum members. I wonder if some of the forum sponsors may jump in?

Someone already offered to donate a trans. Because I am presently a vette owner, I currenty have little to offer in parts, except for trans stuff. My offer to drive still holds

That is sweet. I appreciate you contacting nate. I really like that most have shown support. What I need is for everyone to list nothing but the parts they are willing to donate, and possibly the times people may be able to help if they live close enough. Also, if some knows of a speed shop or company that may want to sponsor this talk to them and let me know. I will inventory all the parts and see what we are lacking. Then it will be a matter of time. Thanks.
My parts: '85 Iroc Z, 350 blocks(a coupple that need machine), .650 lift solid roller cam, carbs, distributors, gaskets, water pumps, headers, 10 sets of stock casting heads(might be able to be ported to flow), th400, .030 and .060 over rings, 1.6 rockers, stock GM casting forged crank, gauges, rear 50/50 drag shocks.
I think this is a pretty good start. Let me know. Thanks

might want to try some of the boards better known head porters. they could most likely let you know what heads to go with and maybe one could do the porting? I know there are a couple who have gotten some real poor flowing stockers to flow unheard of numbers

OK here is my $.02:
I think a pinks challenge would have to against another message board. A Mustang board or an LS1 board would be the two most obvious in my mind.
The concept of the show is 'run what you brung and hope you brought enough' so I wouldn't want to show up with only a moderately fast car. Rather than everyone donating there leftover parts for a so-so combo why not canvas the membership for small donations? Once you have the core amount of money, you could look for other sponsors/business to take part in the project. Obviously there is a need for some basic parts to get the project started but I would think it would make sense for those outside of the immediate geographic area to paypal money rather than waste that money shipping parts that might not match the combo or be strong enough to build a fast enough car...

I had thought the same thing about taking up a donation. $5 from each member would get it done, but i did not want to ask for anyones money, and I am not even asking for anyone elses parts. Justa asking them to take part in this idea.

Obviously there is a need for some basic parts to get the project started but I would think it would make sense for those outside of the immediate geographic area to paypal money rather than waste that money shipping parts that might not match the combo or be strong enough to build a fast enough car...

TGO has 50,538 members. Even if 1/2 of them gave 80 cents each, it could be done(assuming 20k price). That does not count sponsors of the forum that may choose (or not) to donate something. The charity issue gives it credibility.
For the record, I would bet it would not work in the end. Not because of the money, but the logistics. Where to keep the car, who will work on it, tow it to the track, pit crew etc. Getting money is usually easier than getting physical commitments.
