Auto-X vids, 3 in-car videos

Here are 3 vids from my runs today. On the first run the camera shifted and video taped the floor and the seat.

I also need to make a plate for the camera since the tripod mount is all the way at teh back of the camera making it front heavy and bounces too much.

each one is 3 megs, right click and save as.

Are you runing slicks? Your motor sounds pretty relaxed to me in those videos. On courses like that mine will fry the tires coming out of corners in 2nd gear if I floor it. It just sounds like you aren't going WOT or something. Cool vids. I should have video tapped some of my runs this weekend.

I was actually running street tires that day.
I was running harder in runs 3 and 4, but I don't think I was running hard enough. I was WOT quite a few times, but with the HSR and stock cam I don't have any power. I really felt a major loss in torque with the HSR.

How well are those 13" HD brakes? I'll be running the LS1 12.8" setup soon on the fronts, then I'll be able to stop decently.

Well that makes sense now. I wondered what the heck was going on and why it seemed lazy.

The C4HDs are pretty wicked in my opinion. I have never really been around road race/autocross cars so I am still learning a lot with my car, but they seem pretty stout to me. I got the kit from Ed Miller and I'm using the pads he included in the kit. I dont know what compound the pads are. The brakes work very well under normal conditions and they are pretty reassuring when you need them. However once they get a little heat in them you better hang on. Compared to what I was used to with stock brakes, these things were downright scary at first. If I am traveling very fast and ride the brakes a bit to warm them up, I can scare the hell out of my passengers that's for sure. If I just slam them it will usually lock the fronts up (from 60mph it will anyway) In autocross situations or on the street just messing around they will stop hard repeatedly without fade, and they are easy to control. I think they are a great setup and would recommed them to anyone.

Oh, I also switched to 3.42 gears since I toasted my 4.10s and eaton posi.
the 4.10's were a lot of fun, easy to accelerate in any gear, only downside was mpg and top speed.
I think I had a top speed of less than 125mph. It was also a bit too much gear for auto-x since I would tach out 2nd gear way too quick.
this is with the 4.10's, video

the 3.73's I had were also very fun to drive with and were probably the best gear for my car for auto-x.
The rear was on it's way out so I traded it for the 4.10/Eaton rear, here is the car with the 3.72's, video
I am running my Nitto 555RII's in both of the above videos.

I've wanted to do the brakes for a long time after driving my friends 82 Trans Am with the Baer Track 13" brakes, but couldn't afford the $1200 for the setup.

Heck give ebmiller88 a jingle. the C4HD setup is identical to the Bear track setup. I got my stuff from Ed with braided lines and all for around $700, it is a sweet deal on a good kit with good parts.

Thats more like it! Your car with 4.10s sounds like my car does now with the 3.23s. I have lots of people who dont believe it is a 305. Your car looks pretty well sorted out. It doesnt seem to lean or dive much and looks like it is fairly easy to drive. The Eibachs must be worth the money eh? I am looking to sell my motorcycle and may have some money available, maybe I should invest......

Well, I already have the LS1 setup in the garage, just need to order the brackets and hubs, and mod my spindles. I'll probably do that after the next auto-x on the 17th of this month.

With the Eibachs, Sam Strano (a very good auto-x'er and seller of suspension parts) mentioned that the WS6 springs that were stock on my car perform identical to the Eibachs. The eibachs just lower the car, but doesn't alter the handling aspects vs the WS6 springs. I always assumed that having the car lower would make the car handle better to a point.

I'd go with the eibachs since it gives the car a nice stance. they may improve your handling if your springs are worn out.
also, I think the IROC and WS6 springs are nearly the same, yours may be lower. My car looked like a 4x4 with the stock WS6 springs.

pic of the car the day I bought her,

That is interesting about the springs. Thanks for the info. I attached a good pic of how my car sits now with bone stock suspension. Not tuckin 20s but not ready for the mud pit either. Looks a tad lower than your Formula, maybe 1" at the most. I'm not sure I want to lower it too much, I already can't get my floor jack under it. I kind of like not having to scrape my exhaust over every road kill and pebble in the road. I dont think it sits low because my springs are too worn either, the car never bottoms out and handles very well compared to the other 3rd and 4th gens I have auto-x'd with so I assume it is healthy.

based on the pic you attached it appears you have made a few upgrades here and there!

Your car sits very nice. I would just keep those stock springs you have.

I changed a lot on the car over the past 3 years. the major change was the Auto to 5 speed swap, which wasn't hard at all.

Here is a good side shot showing the cars stance,

That thing sits pretty good. I like it a lot. You get a big AMEN from me on the auto to stick swap. The best thing I have done for my car was throw my auto trans in the trashpile and swap in my Tremec TKO600.
