Event win at our Funny Car feature race
Saturday was our biggest race of the year. We had TAFC, TAD, a field of 7.50 funny cars, a pair of wheel standers and a local bio-diesel jet funny car. We had a high car count and a pretty full house in the stands.
We run a 9 race series with the points champion being determined by counting each racer's top 7 events. I went in 3rd in Sportsman (4th after dropping my low 2) and 1st in Street Legal (2nd after the drop). This was race 8 of 9.
I had a good qualifying session. The car ran on the money all afternoon. I was paired with a friend in the first round of Street. He cut an .013 light and ran me out of real estate for an .008 MOV. I was dissapointed to lose but was glad to see him go on to his first ever win.
I got paired with a good vetran racer in the first round of Sportsman, neither light was stellar but mine was a bit better and I caught him early enough to dump it 20' before the stripe. After that I caught fire and went 5 more rounds to win. In my last four rounds I had lights of .001, .008, .005 and an .029 in the final with an 11.991 on an 11.99. It was nice to win with all the fans in the stands and some family at the race.
I have my work cut out for me at the last race!
The Sportsman win puts me in 2nd overall (3rd after the drop). I am now 45 points behind the leader, 12 points behind the guy in 2nd and 64 points ahead of 4th. Mathamatically I can still win the championship if I can win the last event and have #1 go out in the first few rounds (We score it 30, 40, 51, 62, 73, 84, 105 etc.).
On paper I am still #1 in Street but after I drop my low 2 I am 54 points back of 1st and 126 points ahead of 3rd. It was a run away with me and a buddy 1-2. He's pretty much got it clinched now unless he doesn't make the last race.

Congrats on the win. In later races I often do better in the class I'm farther behind in season points. Our last race of the summer season is this coming Fri/Sat.
Could you explain the "drop"?

There are 9 events but each racer can only cound their top 7 races. If you miss an event you count your top 7 of 8, etc.

Re: Event win at our Funny Car feature race
Don't you just like the math logic for the last race of the season. It's like the NFL wildcard spot. Team A can get in if team B loses but team A can still get in if team C wins against team D.
I'm sort of glad I'm not in any points series this year. Just go out and race to have fun.
The dropped races allows racers a chance to stay in the points hunt if they happen to miss a race or 2 for things like breakage, previous engagements (weddings etc), wanting to attend another race of the same weekend or anything else where they can't make the local race. If you happen to attend each race then you have a better chance of being higher in points because you can drop first round loses in favor of races where you went more rounds. If you didn't attend 2 races then only the rounds you make in the 7 other races will count even if they're only first round loses. Then again, if you attend only 5 events and make it into the final round each time, dropped races mean nothing compared to someone who wins one race and goes out in the first round of all the others.
As for the guy who has first place cinched. Getting into the first round will give him 30 more points but if he shows up, passes tech but breaks during time trials, he's still entitled to 10 points which could still make or break the final results unless it's used as a dropped race.
