Build input

Well my motor is at the machine shop so the build is starting. Just wanted to know what you guys though of this build.

400sbc bored .030 over to a 406
Callies Dragonslayer crank -3.75" stroke
Eagle SIR 5140 forged connecting rods - 5.7" rods
Speed-Pro powerforged pistons - should net 13:1 compression with 64cc heads.
Federal Mogul engine rebuild kit - Should include all the gaskets and bearings.
Cam - Lunati voodoo solid roller #60133
Heads - WP sportsman II's with some heavy porting done, valve job, SS valves, milled down from 66cc to 63cc combustion chambers, completely setup for the solid roller.
Weiend team G intake
Holley 750cfm HP series carb

What do you guys think?

Re: Build input

you're gonna need more than a 750 cfm carb, that will choke it up. A 950 would work alot better.

Re: Build input

Well I have a 750 right now but I'll deffinatly be looking into a 850 or 950
----------
I'm torn between the Eagle 5140 rods and the Lunati 4340 street rods, theres about a $200 price diffrence but are the Lunati rods that much better?

Re: Build input

That cam is asininely small for a 13:1 400, extremely poor choice in my opinion...

Re: Build input

With 1.6 rockers it'll have like .624/.630 lift, thats plenty of lift. Do you mean duration wise?

Re: Build input

That cam is suited for a 10.5:1 350-383 not a 13:1 400.... I'd imagine your DCR would be so high you'd have to run C16 all while losing 80+HP compared to a properly sized cam. Also, if you're buying a Callies Dragonslayer crank why on earth would you put that anywhere near a crappy 5.7" Eagle SIR rod and Speed Pro pistons?

Lastly, what do you plan on doing with this motor? with 13:1 I'd assume it's an all out drag car?

110LSA/106ICL
Lift: .585''/.600''
Adv. Duration: 278°/285°
Duration @ .050'': 249°/255°

Solid Roller; Rough idle. Excellent cam for Street/Strip
applications has good mid range and excellent upper RPM torque and horse
power. Needs 3200-3500 RPM stall converter, headers, 10.5:1 compression
ratio or better and 4.10 gearing.

Re: Build input

I dont mind spending money on a proper engine thats why I asked about it. The rods most likely will be Lunati 5.7" street rods.

Re: Build input

Use a flat top piston no need for the dome dont bother cutting the heads. I would zero deck the pistons. use .038-.040 head gasket keep the cam you picked with the 1.6 rockers make sure to use a 7/16 studs for the rockers and a girdle would be nice but not a must have. Also make sure you have a 30 deg back cut put on the int. valves it will bring your low and mid lift floe #s up. And your lifts with the 1.6s will be I.624 E.640 Yes get the lunati rod the 4340 is a better material.

Re: Build input

Would that cam be better in the 406 I already have built with 11:1 compression?

I upgraded my rods to Eagle H-beam forged 4340 rods. Theyre rated at 700 hp and 7500 rpm.

Re: Build input

With a true 11:1 SCR that cam would give you a DCR of about 8.8:1 ..."They" say you cant go over 8.5:1 if you plan on running 91 octane pump gas, especially with iron heads. If you live in an area with 93/94 octane you might be alright, still could be iffy.

Re: Build input

Yes if you have a short block with flat tops in it will work I would have it zero decked and debor the pistons and cyl head chambers.

Re: Build input

Yes I have a 406 in my car with flat tops and a 406 block that I am building...hence this thread. We do have 93 octane here.
