New best for the beast and for me.

Finally won a S/Pro race. First pass had a 1.27 60 and .0001 light and didn't get the by run, was a carry over from the shoot out. 2nd round had a .0051 light and ran a 6.278 on a 28 dial but the other guy ran a 14 on a 18 dial. I did get the by for the light but didn't get to use it, had to race every round. and carried it to the finals. The best the car ran this year 6.253 with a 1.26 60 @108 mph. Looks like I'll be putting the 406 in my sons bird this winter and going back to the 383. Can't run faster than 6.39. At least it stayed together after having it line bored. Wonder what it'd run like with a good set of heads? Those procomps 210s are supposed to be junk.

Congrats! Which motor has the pro comps? I was tempted to buy a set for a BS motor since i hear the are staying together but i am going with the vortec design from Patriot.

The 406 has the procomps and the 383 has 200cc Dart iron eagles. I've been tempted to take the 406 down and put it on the dyno just to what what it's doing. But it'd just be a waste of money.

Re: New best for the beast and for me.

Should have stopped by. Had a new best yesterday, 6.19 @ 109+, but tree was terrible. that's the way I am though. When I'm on I'm competitve but I was all over yesterday. My buddy just told me they had trouble with the timming system yesterday, and a lot of guys were messed up. I had a -.246 1st round, and just loaded up and went home. Never had a red light that bad since I went to the box. They are finishing yesterdays race next weekend. They had a bad oil down at 8:00 pm with 14 cars left. track would have been gone time they cleaned it up. What class were you running?

Nice payday. We race to win but winning very rarely pays the expenses to get there.

Re: New best for the beast and for me.

I don't race for the money, I built the car and ran untill this year just for fun. If I just went a couple of rounds, I was happy. 2 of the fellows I'm close to at the track won track champions last year. I started working on getting better on the tree to go more rounds. I'm having MORE fun now. I started out with a 87 GTA, 350, HSR, 4:10 gears, ran it for a couple years. Went back to a carburated race car. My son ran the GTA with tpi for a couple of years, then I built him a 96 bird, Pontiac powered. We are hobby racers, father & son time. Sold the GTA to one of the kids at the track last fall and he ended up having a fuel fire and burned it up.

Re: New best for the beast and for me.

I think I've won one race i the last 10 years and it wasn't even a points race but the payout was a couple of hundred bucks. I'd like to go more rounds but I race for the fun of it. I don't even get the butterflies in the stomach any more as I roll into the water box like I used to get.

If I raced for profit, I would have declared bankruptcy many years ago.

Re: New best for the beast and for me.

I have to admit, after I won the 4th round I was gettimg worked up a bit. My buddy kept telling me to put .010 in the box, cause i was going to red light. I did put .003 in the final, and had a .004 light. It would have been close. Try paying for two cars going to the track. My son is paying his own way now, but I paid for and built the motor and trans in his car too.
