My first drag race video, and question about my tranny
Ok so I went drag racing for the first time at North Star Dragway in Denton TX for a group im in called Ricekillers.com, anway my best time in the 1/8 mile was 10.1026seconds at 68.33MPH. This is on my stock 305 1988 camaro with a 5-speed tranny. Heres a video of the first 2 races against my Moms turbo mini cooper S JCW tune kit. She won the first 2 races but I got her on the third race by .2424seconds because i finally got the hang of the christmas tree. had a .1615 reaction time on that one. So anyway later one I got to race this newer mustang. I knew i would lose but to stand a chance i decided to launch my car. Was a good launch but something happened to my transmission. The shift lever like started bouncing up and down like the tranny was moving around. The lever would like sink down like 2 inches and it bounced around. So i slowed down and ended up losing. I bet that would have been my best run though since I launched it. It drove home fine but it seems to still do it when the RPM's get high in the gears. Anyone know why? Heres the video link of 2 races. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UltuzE9QXGw

When did you go? I live in Denton, about ten minutes from that track. There is supposed to be a decent size crowd Saturday for the local 275 radial class.

Re: My first drag race video, and question about my tranny
last night 11-11-10 it was for a group event from some forum im in called Ricekiller.com They have meets everymonday where like 500 cars show up in dallas. And yea i wanna get 3.73 gears but right now im looking to get a 350 engine witha 4 speed tranny. Is the transmission mount that little rubber looking piece on the bottom of the tranny that has a bolt that goes through the crossmember to bolt down?

Re: My first drag race video, and question about my tranny
Well I went ahead and bought a new transmission mount and some engine mounts so ill just go ahead and replace them... Ok for drag racing and DD you say 3.73 gears? Do you think those gears would be good for a 350 engine with a muncie 4 speed tranny? Or would it be better do do the 3.73 gears with 350 engine and t-56. the 6 speed tranny is just alot of monies for me.

I could see the T-56 being more still, but I would have to vote for updated technology, let alone 2 more gears... Just my
Aside from choosing the trans by what its name is, its truely about matching gear ratios for the optimal 1/4 mile speed/time. Along with how your car will be acting on the road.

Re: My first drag race video, and question about my tranny
Ok so my cars a 305, 5 speed with 3.08 gears right now and i plan on getting a 350, Wouldnt the t-56 be able to just bolt right in since i already have the pedals and everything? Also would 4.11 gears be a good choice for a t-56 tranny? Good for hightway and still good for the track?Anyway heres what i broke while drag racing... It was the transmission mount like you all said. My dad went and got one while i was at work and i already changed it and it solved the bouncing problem

4.11 and the 7.5 rear do NOT play well together for very long. 3.73's and the T5 will work good for you with the 305, and as long as it is a WC T5 it should hold up to more abuse than the rear end will.

Re: My first drag race video, and question about my tranny
my little 3.1(t-5 tranny) pulled both bolts through the tranny mount when i launched it hard with my new slicks on it just to mess around. my tranny and **** were bouncing up and down like crazy but didnt bounce in fifth. i could hear my tranny hitting the tunnel everytime i shifted. wish i had pic of the mount because it got destroyed
