Let this be a lesson about how important a well matched combo is, lol! This setup was completely thrown together using mostly leftover parts.

-Stock 01 5.3 shortblock and cam
-6.0 heads (guy we bought the long block from intended to turbo it)
-stock 97 vette ls1 intake
-stock 4l60e from an 04 tahoe, stock converter
-2.73 gears.

Best pass of the night was a 14.95@97mph
Best sixty was a 2.33 dead hooking.
Ideal conditions (converter/gear/traction/weather) would put us at a 13.66 with that mph.

We got a lot of good data though and a direction in which we need to make changes. first order of business is some 3.73s!

Wow, thats pretty suprising. If you'd have asked before you took it, Mid 13's would have probably been the general consensus. Even with the 2.73's. Put some gears and a converter in it and let us know what it does.

It's weird, I rode with him on one pass to watch the wideband, its in the mid 14s for the first 100 feet or so, then power enrichment turns on and it goes to like 11.5:1 and it really picks up some.

That explains the slow 60' then. What ecm are you using?

Stock 00 5.3 truck pcm. Stock tune with a 2001 z06 injector table since it has 28# injectors. It also is having an issue with the maf sensor circuit. Not sure what's up with that yet. The sensor is new, but its saying low voltage...

What code? I can get you a diagram if you need one.I'm pretty sure the maf wiring shares its power with a few other sensors.

Edit: I was wrong. The pink wire should have 12 volts key on from fusebox. The yellow wire should be 5 volts, KOEO from pcm. Black wire is ground.

That is a pretty good number considering that set up is quite possibly about 9.5:1 compression with those heads on there........ a set of 5.3 heads and a small 224 camshaft along with a #3600 stall should put that car in the deep 12s possibly even touch the 11s with gear depending on DA,traction ec

I was looking for it to rain Friday night Matt. Well at least you have a starting point and you didn't brake anything.

I have already confirmed 12v at thepink wire, ground continuity, and the yellow wire continuity. The sensor is new, and the pcm is new, and the code has followed the harness from my car when it was injected...

Yeah, its like 8.8:1 or so. Pretty low. We're impresses by the mph, but I expected it to be in the low 14s as it sits.

No lie, ended up being a great night though.

Are you going to swap heads on it or mill the 317's?

Just to stir the pot a little, why did you bolt on the 317s when they sell for more money than used 5.3L heads which wouldn't kill off the torque and compression. I've seen 806 heads for $50 on tech, probably even cheaper locally.

Re: took the little bro's 5.3 swapped iroc to tnt night, interesting results

i didn't bolt on 317's. they were bolted on already when we got the longblock (reading the entire OP will do wonders steve)

we have a set of 806's on the shelf as well, but the cost of bolts/gaskets put it out of reach for now. and i don't know the condition of the 806's...other than they did run once but they're NASTY.

806 castings will increase the compression ratio but they don't flow for beans... Mill. 020 off of the 241 heads and watch the power jump!

317 heads.....

i'm not the only person who didn't care to read it all

also 317 sell for $150, well under the cost of $50 5.3L heads, parts store ls1 gaskets and new fel-pro bolts

ok, we ARE planning to do something about the cylinder heads, it's not an immediate priority. the car runs too good as a daily driver for him to take it back apart at the moment. his budget will probably allow for some used worked 5.3 heads and something like a take out ls6/2 cam or if we can find something like a tr224 used. not looking to make a monster, just a solid runner/daily driver. something that we can trust won't kill a 60e and either a built 9 bolt or 10 bolt. i don't want to see him dump a whole bunch of money into this thing yet, he's got other things going for him.

This all makes since, Do you think it would get better fuel mileage with a bit more compression and torque. Also wouldnt he be able to pick up more girls with a even faster car?

As fast as that car looks (And it's got a good exhaust system too) I dont think he will have any problems picking up the ladies!

Sounds like he can roll around on it a while, and later on do some heads/cam work and touch 11's. Sounds like a decent game plan to me. Since it has the stock cam, and you have to pull the heads to get to the lifters in those, seems like I would probably just wait and do cam/heads at the same time.

The torque management in the stock tune probably isn't helping the 60 ft any.
