parting car, suspension/steering components

Well, with working 60+ hours a week, and student loans, mortgage, wedding, etc to save for, I don't really have the time or money to play with my car anymore. I sat down and started to think about all I have into it, and it seems that it's worth more in parts than it is whole. So I'm going to start pulling easy parts off over the next week, and if weather is nice next weekend I'm gonna tear the whole thing down to the skeleton. Here's a list of the performance parts I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of more as time goes by. I'll put up seperate threads for interior, exterior, and performance parts.

This is all from an 87 IROC with 70,000 miles.

SOLD-P245/50/ZR16 Falken Ziex 512 Z rated tires. 6000 miles on them. $100

SOLD-16x8 IROC rims. Cleaned, stripped, did full polish on them 2 summers ago. Show quality finish at the time. Would require a small amount of hand polishing to return full luster. $300

SOLD-Front lower control arms with newer moog balljoints and front and rear bushings. 6000 miles on them. $50

-front spindles. Both in excellent shape. $40 for pair.

SOLD-Brand new brake lines. Did brakes MAYBE 300 miles ago. All rubber lines included, as well as full brake hardline kit from Inline Tube. $120 for all.

SOLD-all new parking brake cables, from handle to calipers. Paid $120 for these when I did my t5 swap last fall. $50 for all

-Steel driveshaft, wire wheeled and painted with eastwood rust encapsulator. Verified balance. $10

-Front and rear IROC swaybars, $30 for both.

-wonderbar, $30

SOLD-quick ratio IROC steering box, $50

SOLD-Front inner and outer tierod ends and centerlink, all 6000 miles old. $40. Boot on left inner tierod end torn, repaired with RTV.

SOLD-rear bilstein shocks. $50

SOLD-front strut plates $20

SOLD-Tilt steering column, very tight. $20

SOLD-front rotors $30

-rear rotors $30

SOLD-front pads $10

-rear pads $10

-front calipers $20

SOLD-rear calipers $50
all new brake components, replaced 300 miles ago.

Are the tires wearing evenly? I am interested if they are in good shape and shipping isn't insanely expensive. Could you please check shipping to 18301?

Thanks

Shipping is usually $20-25 per tire, if it goes over that I will cover the difference. They are wearing evenly front/back, side/side. The fronts were ran with a good deal of camber, so they have maybe a difference of 1/32 inside to outside. Put them on the rear and they will even out quickly enough. I would estimate tread at 8-9/32" all 4 corners, new is about 11/32.

Shipping is $45, due to the weight of the control arms probably.

That red that is on the parts in the pics is glare from something, they just have a light coating of surface rust on them. If I remember correctly, all those parts are Moog Problem Solver line of parts. More expensive, but some of the better stuff available.

It was about 10 hours straight labor on each one

Chemically stripped them, then hand sanded, then polished with a dremel and metal polish. The inserts are painted with gloss black wheel paint, and I made the centers out of 1/4" aluminum plate. They were polished with the same method as the wheels.

They have lost a bit of that gloss, but will only require a little time to polish them back up. If I have time, I may even do it to get a little higher return out of them

If you take all that, I'll throw in the prop valve for free.
The mounts I want to keep with the rear for now. If it doesn't sell, I'll consider seperating them.

Let me know,
Matt

I can get pics of them when I get them off. I may have a pic or two of them on the car, but they won't be very good ones. They are blue and yellow like the new ones are. I think they are original to the car as far as I know. 70,000 miles on them. Good shape, still control spring oscillation like they should. They don't leak or anything.

Spindles are yours, nose has a couple ahead of you.

I don't have any idea what the spindles weigh, and they are a very odd shape. The quote on those will have to wait until they are off the car. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Thanks,
Matt

Hey I am very interested in the brake line set up you have I know it would be a bit strange to ship it, but if there is a way you cold ship it with the parts getting here in good condition I am willing to pay. Let me know if you still have it. I am looking for the brake lines for the entire car 100%. Thanks

This sounds like it would be exactly what you need, but a local guy is very persistant on getting these. If by some chance it does fall through, I'll get you a shipping qoute on them.

Thanks,

The rain set me back alittle more than I hoped it would. I do have 90% of the car apart. Just the bottom end of the engine, trans, gas tank, steering box, and centerlink/tierods remain. While that may seem like alot, EVERYTHING else is removed from the car. This will literally be just a couple hours work and then the boneyard can drag it away.

7 bolts and 3 nuts and it's all out

Everything will be boxed and shipped as soon as I can. The hard part is nearly done though.

I got the console pad and tach boxed,
the heads are boxed,
the headers are boxed,
lifters and pushrods boxed,
distributor, cap, rotor, wires boxed,
rear shocks are boxed.

My dad is going to search for some monsterous boxes tomorrow at work to ship all the interior pieces in. The box for the long rear plastic is going to be at least 60x24x14 Funny thing is it will probably only weigh 5 lbs

I also pulled the seatbelts which are sold, the fuel tank, the nose, and the hood today, and then cleaned up some outside. 86z, I should have your shipping quote on the pickup assy tomorrow once the gas dries up.

Thanks again for the patience guys, I will do my best to get the stuff out as soon as I can. Things should get alot more normal for me next week also.

It will be $25 to ship the brake stuff, mainly because of the weight of the rotors. What steering parts do you need? Centerlink and tierod ends? I still have the lower control arms and ball joints, IROC steering box, pitman arm, draglink, etc if you are in need

Thanks

Here's a pic of it's final day in existance (at least in my reality)

Today I polished the rims up. Didn't take but maybe an hour to do, and they look fantastic

I am going to start individual threads for the large items I have left. If anyone still has questions or comments in these three massive threads, feel free to ask. I still get an email every time there is a reply, so you will get a response.

Thanks for making the last days with the car easy ones guys

The local yard came and dragged it away today. Kind of bittersweet, ya know? I wasn't sure if I should celebrate or go running down the street after the hauler screaming that I changed my mind.

Oh well, I guess the most valuable thing I gained from this endeavor is the knowledge. That will always be with me
