New update for Jekyll and Hyde ( 07-31-2007 ) ( 56k users beware )
If you didn't see the last update, visit here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto...kyll-hyde.html
My friends helped me out with most of this, so most questions can be sent to him, search for the user 'black is best'.
Update as of 07-31-2007:
I had the exterior re-cleared and the black re-shot to fix some minor blemishes. I also had the antenna shaved off, it reminded me of a remote control car everytime I looked at it.
'black is best' also did the red taillight modification for me and also refinished the exterior.
We started working on the interior lacing the entire thing with dynamat extreme. We also dyed the interior plastics with landau black matching the stock GM colors from the late 80s and re-carpeted the panels with new black carpet. We put in new black floor carpet, and jute padding. I had the 1997 seats recovered in a new type of synthetic vinyl, most people can't tell a difference, and had orange top stitching added to the seats. I also purchased new door panels and had the same company add orange top stitching to those.
Along with the interior, I had new exhaust put on, the windows re-tinted, and painted and cleaned up the engine bay.
Enough talking, time for pics:

Looks really good! That Dynamat really makes a difference and is worth all the extra weight, Or at least I thought so. Love the way it looks, but can't get past the hood pins... not my cup of tea! Keep up the good work and keep posting pics.

Those seats look great!! Just curious, are you planning on keeping the t-tops in the back like that? I just tried them back there exactly like that last week and went for a quick ten minute drive and they didn't rattle or anything. It seems way more convenient, but I might make something to separate them a little bit and keep them in place. They fit in there really good though.
Edit: Just saw the wiring back there in the one pic, guess you have different plans for back there.

My sister said that she seen a camaro similar to yours in louisville KY today, just the 2 tone black stopped at the hood not on the bumper. She said it was orange and black just like yours. I love the 2 tone but im not sure about what i want to do. either your 2 tone in either yellow/black, red/black, or orange/black. or orange w/ black stripes, or red w/ black stripes. lol im not sure but i just dont want to copy yours exsactly because i dont want to steal your thunder lol. let me kno what u think about the paint for my Z28. later dude. -Matt

If you want a two tone that's different, I would suggest Nasier's car. I've meet this guy a couple of times, he has won many races with this car, he is part of the 'King of the Hill' racing league in Texas.

I met him through a friend that used to race KOTH. This one is very nice, the orange is close to the same, but doesn't change as much as mine does. Nice the design that he used for the separator, it's not just a line like mine.

how mush did it cost you to have those door panels made? Also did all your rear plastic fit and look that nice before you did all this? If not where/how did you get it to look that nice? Thanks for the insight. Great looking car!

i like the drag car, but i think its the simplicity of yours that makes it look so great. im in debate though. I think the 2 tone looks wicked and only question i have for you is what you think about your design with yellow or the stock dark red metallic instead of the orange. My Z28 is almost back on the road and i really want to start on body to get it ready. I plan on a 2 inch cowl hood and the hawks 5 inch spoiler as my mods. But let me kno what u think. later man. -Matt

Actually, the rear plastics didn't fit great, but they weren't too warped. They look 10 times better than they originally did. I can say that with the new jute padding and the dynamat, it was much tighter against the carpet than stock which really helped making it all fit together better.
No problem man, anytime.
Thanks for the kind words.

DUDE looks GREAT! love the way the seats and the door panels came out... idk if i could deal with no armrests though? you must have to cut out the holes or something b/c what are you going to do with the door locks and all that stuff? the outside is so nice looking, you need to get some diamond cut headlights to match the parking lights though, and how hard was it painting the engine bay? i need to do it to mine sooo bad but im worried its going to be a BIG job...

I've actually been looking for the diamond cut headlights, we ordered some in, but there was no bulb cover in the package. I contacted the company that I bought them from and PIAA and both said that that package doesn't come with the blub covers. So I'm looking for some that do.
The engine bay wasn't hard to paint, it took two days in all and came out really good. The major part was the time to move everything out of the way. If you contact 'Black is Best' he can give you some good tips to do it. I helped him paint it basically. He shot it and I moved the stuff or held it out of the way, while he shot it.

Hey man, I went ahead and photoshopped (btw a crappy job) the dark red color on your car to see what it would look like. I like it alot. What do you think? I think this is an awesome look for my Z28. If you dont mind me borrowing your design. let me kno -Matt

Also, I would have to suggest something a little more updated for the rims than the TT IIs, something a little more racecar oriented. Maybe something like the ROH ZHs or the tuners from boyd coddington. I'll see if I can come up with some good rims for you. The rims can really make or break a car, so make sure you know exactly the look your are going for before purchasing any rims.
----------
Thanks to both of you. I'm really trying hard with this one, so I really hope that the majority likes this car. I love the third gen body lines and I'm tired of seeing them in junkyards or driven around looking like junk. The third gen f-bodies need to get some more respect.

I like that alot. You would need to do the red taillight mod to hide the rest of the car, not sure what to about the emblems, but the black/red stock emblems would go nicely. The other thing to think about is the sidemarker lights, either get rid of them or keep them.

Its gonna take some time but I really want to get it done right. I dont kno how to do the tail light mod and i dont kno how hard it will be. I hope its not hard to tape off the 2 tone and i am thinkin silver stripe dividing the color so it would tie in the clear side markers. (really wanna keep'em) But mainly i just wanted to make sure you didn't care if i used your paint scheme. thanks for the info/comment man. let me kno about the rims. later dude. -Matt

One more update...
My car is a featured car in the January 08 issue of 'Camaro Performers'. I will try to post up the article when I can get it scanned in.

Saw the article in Camaro Peformers and immediately recognized the car from thirdgen.org. Good job man! The paint really sets is off, and I love the new seats, too.

Thanks man!
Thanks, I can't say that enough. Yes, a friend of mine did it, he used that ceramic coat 500* engine enamel that you can get from AutoZone, Pep Boys, or even walmart. We moved all the wiring and covered the engine and in plastic. I held it back while he shot it. Man what a difference that made!
