Turbo oil drain thought

I saw a question come up a few days ago about orienting the turbo with the exhaust discharging straight down. The arguement against this was obviously the oil drain problem.

Do we have any aircraft gurus here? How is this problem solved on turbocharged aircraft that see acrobatic use?

No problem, you just loosen the bolts for the turbine housing clamps and rotate till the drain faces down

I think you misunderstand. Picture the turbine housing on bottom and the compressor housing on top... placing the center section horizontal to the ground.

I believe what Dan is trying to say is that the axis that the turbines rotate on is vertical. If you were to look top-down into the turbo, you would see the inlet of the compressor pointing straight up.

The turbos I've see oriented that way were on a snowmobile and they were self lubricated.

On some (R-2800's) theres a oil pump driven by the shaft through the turbo for scavenging.
