Turbo Computer ????
Ok
I need help I am doing a twin turbo set up and am unsure if my stock computer can handle it. I have an 86 tpi IROC. Shold I mess with the mass air system or dump it for after market? I was looking at the holley commander 950. Any help would be great.

If you are willing to do some work yourself , find a used 1227730 ecm and then repin your existing harness and then use the $58 code in the chip.
Do a search for 730swap, when the 730swap is done all you need to do is repin and replace the 1bar map with a 2bar and you are set to go.
Info abot the swaps.

Thats not a bad idea. I was also playing around with the idea of getting a commander 950 computer from holley. It like 750 bucks for computer wiring and sensors. Its made for tpi. Any opinions? I also dont have prom burning stuff so I would have to buy that to if I go with the gm ecu

Where are you getting the Gen7? Sounds like a fair price to me, especially if a harness is included.

No, I don't need one just yet. I'm very anxious to play with computer programming for my TT IROC, but budget will keep me from that for awhile. I've been told I'm seriously missing out by relying on a FMU to add the extra fuel for 6psi of boost, and in the future I plan to run even more, so a custom engine managment system is going to even more necessary.

Go with $60 in a '730 ecm. THe source code is fully commented, a lot of us can help with tuning, and its been verrified to work with CNP.
I've tinkered with Accel DFI, and recently electromotives TEC-3. Neat stuff, but that money could go into something to make you go fast.

I seriously need to take some time to research this stuff so I can make a more educated decision on my engine management plans. I have my TT IROC that I need to dial in, as well as a single turbo 95LT1/T56 in a '90 S10 truck (building that one for the guy who did the excellent paint/body work on my IROC). For the S10, we are shooting for 550-600hp, and I know a RRFPR is not going to cut it, so its time to learn something a little more serious (unless you think the stock injectors will still work at approx 250psi of fuel pressure ).

CNP = Coil Near Plug. I've heard people also call it Coil On Plug. Basicly, look at an LS1.
'730 is the GM ECM used in speed density TPI fbodys (as well as a bunch of other cars).
$60 is a program "mask". It's basicly the program for the car. $60 is based on $58. $58 is the program that runs the cyclone/typhoon.
$60 has been taken apart, and completly commented and reviewed by Bruce (Grumpy). He dedicated well over a year just on this project.
Even if your not a programmer, and you dont understand source code, Tunercat has been nice enough to donate a TDF for the $60. This means, you can use their graphical software to manage your car.
Some guys think we're foolish for using OEM stuff vs aftermarket. The fact is, they are uneducated. They don't understand that with source code, you can do anything you want. WHen they list off the things the aftermarket stuff does, I look at that as our TO-DO list for the next version.

Hey, Im just curious about this $60 source code...Where would one come by this file? Also, is it an ECU file I could use with TunerPro RT? I cant seem to find a good $58.ECU file...

If you look at aftermarket vs OEM, you'll see how much the aftermarket DOESN'T do.

I agree with bigtime in the sense of dfI for 700 hp. Stock ecm's seam to have there place for a bolt on stock style supercharger. But I think I am going dfi. IT maybe over kill for my 500 hp motor but dfi will always be able to handle what I throw at it. And lets face it who here thinks there car is fast enough? No one. Well it does at first but then fades fast after you get beat once or twice.

DIY is not for everyone.
Bob's area of expertise is building super fast engine combinations. Mine is software engineering. So while your above statement about DFI vs OEM may be agreed on by hot rodders, I'm biting my tongue..

Hey question for eaither bigtime or anesthes. I saw anesthes that you state your IAC motor wont work with dfi. Cant you modify the fuel trim to make it idle? I think an IAC motor is a beter way but you can make the car idle with out it right?
#24
The DFI still uses a IAC and you can adjust the parameters. Its called throttle follower in the dfi.
On factory ECM's the VSS is one of the inputs for the iac. Joe can explain better.

The condition I was was refering to was how the code reacts when slowing down, vs a coast based on vss decay.
You can control the IAC with DFI.

On many DFI systems you'll run across, the VSS is only used to determine TCC lockup or MPH based accessory switches. On even the most modern DFI systems, there are driveability issues that are not accounted for in the code. As anesthes stated, for example, there is absolutely no data to account for sudden throttle-off stumble as it changes with vehicle speed (throttle follower). This is where OEM takes over.
The main hangup for many who join in this debate is on-the-fly programming versus chip remove and replace. This problem is being addressed by the moates systems. If there were possible for $60 to retain smog controls, I think the debate would finally be over. It's only a matter of time before all of us will be forced to track-only cars if we continue to ignore the problem...

I'll have the CALI emissions patch ready for the spring.
