Any interest in a group buy on turbo headers
#51
or I may be interested in trading my head unit towards a blower setup if anyone is intersted in going that route. I am still not sure if the headers would fit my car.... I got a Precision T72GTQ .96 Tang housing. Precision rates this turbo to 900hp

Interested... Yes!
I've been an avid reader since Oct 2004, but technically this is my first post here.
My rundown: 86 IROC LB9, G92 auto (only need a new starter and pilot bushing to complete my WC T5 swap), rebuilt 305 (stock except summit "TPI" cam), GM fast chip, ported plenum, ram air, homemade flowmaster merge in place of factory Y pipe, free mods, etc.... I would like to go (single) turbo ASAP, and this sounds like a great way to get the turbo project started. I live in Dallas, so smog is a necessary evil. The kids that do the inspections here really don't even look over the vehicle. They take it for a quick spin to test the brakes/ebrake, and the usual lights/horn/blinker stuff, but the hood is popped only to attach the plug wire pickup for the test on the rollers. I feel I can do away with the AIR injection and still pass (dyno smog), but would need to lower my compression to around 8.5 (or less) to get away with pump gas. Running some Vortecs would lower the compression, but would do away with the EGR, so thats a NO-GO. Anyone have recommendations on lowering compression (yes I know, thicker gaskets) as far as porting or smog legal (cheap!) head swaps?
Sorry off topic.......
Had to bring up the inspections/AIR issue to see if any members have had issues with deleting the AIR injection???
I would be interested in a set of these headers for sure. I currently am running the stock V belt setup, but would like to change over to the serp setup anyway (a turbo would be a great motivator.) I would like to keep the stock K member, and keep the A/C, but losing both wouldn't upset me much (the weight loss of the K member, and the fact that my A/C keeps friggin leakin/breakin.)
Keep me posted on Brian's progress. IMO, 600 is a steal.
Is he going to have any options/extras? Different type turbo flanges, coatings, perhaps AIR, etc??
Thanks
Josh

Just want to make sure I'm reading all this right(kinda hard in between peoples rants).
The headers will be for a serpentine accesory drive setup with all accesories(except for AIR)?
Both headers and crossover pipe will be included and this is a sincle turbo application?
I'm in provided:
They actually fit and clear everything without fighting
They come in somewhere near the bllapark price being thrown around(I know its not set in stone, thats understandable
They allow plug access when installed(i can dream cant i, at least for the majority of plugs)
I have seen their work and looks good from every indicaton so I hope this happens.
There is a reason my new TPI 383 has 8.67 to 1 compression and a small camshaft :-)
later

Sorry I havent updated this post more often.
Last time I talked with Brian (last week) He was working on the first prototype. If everthing works out ok the plan is to put the turbo where the battery is, front passenger corner. The battery will have to be relocated along with one Ac line. It also sounds like A three inch downpipe will fit ok. Again sorry I have not kept everyone updated Im really excited to see the finished product. Just bought a gt67 p trim and cant wait to put it to work.

Update!
Spoke with Brian and the prototype is done. I will have pictures up within the week. The turbo will sit where the battery currently is. This allows room for larger turbos. I have not seen the pics yet but from the way I understand it the pipe will come up from underneath the battery tray. The turbo will be mounted to the tray. Two inline flex pieces will allow the engine to move without breaking the headers.
Thanks

Talked to Brian on the phone today. He does not have all the pics yet but he does have prices and information on the turbo kit.
The retail price will be $800 for the hotside. The Group buy price will be one hundred less $700. The downpipe will sell for $300. Plan on $1000 for the complete setup if you buy it on the group buy.
The downpipe is three inch and comes with a v band and flange for a 38 mm wastgate. The downpipe will end a little past the bellhousing and will not be a direct bolt on to a stock exhaust. Who uses the stock exhaust anyways with a turbo
The turbo headers will work with the AC , however because of the location of the downpipe it will not work with the smog pump. Brian said a downpipe could be built to work with the smog but it would be more expensive.
The turbo will mount in the location of the battery with the provided mount. 3 inline flex mounts will allow the motor to move without stressing the headers.
Again Ill put up some pics as soon as I get them

If the down pipe could extend all the way down to where the cat slips on that would be ideal. I think most of the y-pipes are 3" slip fit into the converter. Just one less thing to worry about anyway.

This looks promising if it works with the accesories. Desprite for pics of the setup with downpipe. Price is very resonable around here I was quoted 1500 for headers, downpipe wastegate and wastegate pipe.

hard to work a group buy on just a couple pictures, this kind of sdelay on the downpipe pictures makes me suspicious.

If I am not mistaken, those pictures are not even of the kit in question. I believe those are of Brian's race only kit that was not designed around any of the stock 3rd gen accessories.

GROUP BUY
OK Guys here is the deal on the headers. We built and sent out a set, the guy was in a hurry and was supposed to get us installed picts(we normally do) Anyways he still hasnt installed the kit. My guys will be building a few sets in this upcoming week for three guys who had ordered outside of the group buy. 2 of these are singles and one is a twin setup. The headers are similar as our race version but are kicked out more to clear the a/c componits. They both come off the collector and shoot straight down. Over towards the passenger side battery tray, under the frame rail and up through the battery tray. The turbo is placed over in the battery tray (passenger side) With the turbo inlet facing out into the fender well. The down pipe comes out of the turbo and shoots back under the header and down towards the converter. It is a very clean and slick setup.
We are currently very very busy and are currently 8 to 12 weeks behind as of now. If you guys want to get a group buy together I will have picts up and running here next week sometime and will be posting them everywhere. If I get enough interested partys on a group buy I will see what I can do to speed them up, as long as every one orders the same thing, (street kits) These are made to work with all accessories except the smog pump.
Thanks,
Brian

Dude, good luck checking/changing plugs with those headers!!! Maybe they are not as bad to get at as it looks, but based on some of those pics, OUCH, pain in the butt!!!
I know what they are dealing with in making turbo headers for a 3rd gen, especially one that has AC and accessory drive belts still installed. The mock up looks great. I hope it all turns out and am anxious to see some of you with installed and operating turbo systems...
Good luck

Still waiting for Brian to finish up. Last I spoke with him the two 2.5" downpipes were finished (routing through stock location) and he was combining them into one 4", he started cold side and is currently working on the intercooler fitment. I'm sure it doesn't help but I also had him exchange the original turbos for GT35r ball bearing turbos.
Cold side induction pics
Updated turbo pics
Here are some updated pics. I think he posted some of them in another thread.
I heard Brian did a single turbo set up for some guy on this board also but I haven't seen anything posted.
I can't wait!!!
