Talon engine?

Does anyone know if a twin-turbo eagle talon engine would fit into an f-body?

Re: Talon engine?

i was not aware that the talon/laser/eclipse ever had twin turbos.

Sure you could makeit fit, it would just take a lot of time, fabrication and piles of money. Nothing will be a direct swap over.

Unless your referring to the VR4 engine from the Mitsubishi 3000GT, the Eclipse never had a twin turbo engine. Either way, please don't do it. It makes me think of this Corvette sporting a 2JZ engine. It just doesn't feel right, Click Here....

Re: Talon engine?

why bother? a NA 350 would make as much power for much less $$. Cheapest swap with your v6 car would be to sell it and buy a L98 tpi car and mod that.

Anything is possible, but like said before, it will take time and money.

My freind just finished a '89 RX7 with 6.0 GTO engine and wiring harness/T56. It took him nearly 7 months and nearly $15000.

nothing wrong with the 2JZ , If i could get my hands on a 2JZ i would swap my V6 out in heart beat, now that vette can go 400k more miles without problems . too bad 2JZ suck gas.

Re: Talon engine?

Yeah my friend's got a talon that I thought he said had a twin turbo. It went pretty fast and the blow-off valves sounded cool. Thats honestly why I wanted that kind of engine in it. Besides it would be different.

I don't know what to be more disgusted by, that b****rd toyota engine in that corvette or putting a talon engine in an fbody...

O.K., the toyota engine tops it, but please don't stick that 4-banger in your 'bird.

Re: Talon engine?

Can any stock thirdgen engine take 1000hp to stock bottom end I dont think so, 2JZ is superior to a lot chevy engines at its time with the exception of the LSx and the LT5. Want a non American engine in your car 2JZ is the best option and the most deadly on the street.

Re: Talon engine?

4g63 in a third gen. Theats one I've never even thought of. It would be pretty sweet if you ask me. David Buschur, the best 4g63 guy in the US, makes parts to accomplish what you're looking to do.

Do you have the minimum $10k to do this and make some sick power?

If not then its best to think of a more traditional swap to get your car movin' quicker.

Re: Talon engine?

I wouldnt call it "superior" just because they put forged internals in the engine going into a $50K car, forged internals in a SBC are just as capable of the power, there is nothing spectacular about the 1JZ/2JZ engines that would make them "superior" it is a good engine with the stock bottom end because of the internals, yes, some engine to worship, no.

Re: Talon engine?

Lets not talk about that **** again, we all know it wont end well. We all have our opinions, and they wont change. EVER. Some of us dont like the lack of low end torque of a turbo four-banger.

My buddy has a talon. Quick car. Engine runs rough, leaks oil everywhere, but the engines are very strong, so they can handle abusive amounts of boost and be quick with a **** tune. AWD is amazing on the street.

Too soggy on the bottom end for our cars, I feel. If you wanted to stray from the v8 route, Id go with a turbo v6. Like a grand national motor, buick 3800 with a turbo, perhaps a multiport 4.3 with a turbo? A 4.3 would bolt up easily, trans mounts the same, and there are some good upgrades out there, not too mention cyclone/typhoon parts. I always thought these would be great motors in our cars with the limited low speed traction.

+1 Keep the 2JZ worship to a minimum, they're a good engine but not even close to turbocharged sbc, bbc and ls series motors in max power production and streetability (no tourque off boost is not a desirable trait unless you have a 5000rpm stall).

I'm all for driveline swaps of all kinds, but there should be a reason for it. I can see swapping a light 4 cylinder (like the OP asked about) engine into a camaro to improve its weight balance and cornering, but can't see why you would want a long, heavy, peaky small displacement inline six where a streetable turbocharged V8 with low end torque and insane high end power would be more at home.

Re: Talon engine?

I really don't really need a talon engine I just thought it might be an interesting idea. I understand the tension between import and American on these boards which is why I'm hesitant to speak of my further intentions but I'd like to combine the best of both worlds on my thirdgen. I love muscle cars with big engines but it's not the 60's anymore and I figure my bird's not really a muscle car its a sports car, why not make it sound like a sports car? Thats what imports are right, (foreign, granted) sport compact cars? I really like the sound of import engines and the turbo blow-off valves especially. To get to the Buick idea, I have been looking into the 3.8 Buick turbo engine and it sounds like a great idea that has been accomplished, my question is, would it sound anything like an import?

edit: does the buick 3.8 even have blow-off valves?

The Import hold really has you, doesn't it lol? Remember, Domestics have been using the concept of boost way before the Import invasion, there was just never any real need to capitalize on it. But anyways, yes, installing a Buick 3.8 Turbo engine into a third gen will sound like everything you would want it to sound like, Click Here....

Re: Talon engine?

I used to hate everything about imports but I realized that its not the cars its the people who drive them. People who aren't concerned with the performance but only the aesthetics. Besides, I can't stand the body styling of todays lancers and civics and stuff.

Right on dude. For a street car, a turbo four cylinder is a GREAT idea, good gas mileage at low throttle, and a quick car when you get into the turbo.
The cars themselves I have no problem with, its all the crap that follows them, The aftermaket scene is an absolute joke, a shame to all of us with a clue.

I just typed two more paragraphs, but deleted them. lol. This feud is like a disease. Theres a few things in the world that will cause a man to murder: power, sex, and money. The american vs import could be added to that trio. MAN I GET HEATED WITH SOME OF MY FRIENDS. Especially at the bar. It never ends well. Then they start sh!talking nascar..........

So wait a minute here, all you want is the sound of a blow off valve? Just tie a couple balloons to your serpentine belt.

Whose going to be doing the engine swap? Make sure you think about that carefully.....

Re: Talon engine?

I have no problem with legitimately built imports (no fart cannons, no park bench spoiler, no ridiculous 30" wheels), but I am outspoken against gutless little 4-bangers with few exceptions. GM deciding to put the iron duke in an fbody was a nasty mistake in my oppinion, too much weight too little torque. Ever driven one? It's a shame to call it a muclecar.

A 2JZ has no place in a corvette unless it was built by a blind monkey with a lobotomy, -keep it in a toyota-. Personally I find the winey high pitched sound (or constipated bumblebee sound with a fart can) emitted by sport compacts to be extremely irritating, but to each is own.

We seem to get alot of 4cyl swap ideas on this board, maybe a 4 cyl section should be added.

Re: Talon engine?

Not sure why. Whats the advantage of a 4 over 6? You wouldnt get better gas mileage with a 4. The car's too heavy. Get a fiero gt. If I were to build another drag car, I think thats what it would be. An ls1 nos fiero.

The only four cylinder that I have ever thought sounded cool is the WRX. As far as a turbo 3.8 sounding like an import.......yes and no. When you run a big turbo all you really hear is the air rushing out the wastegate. So in that sense it will. At idle and at part throttle it'll sound thoatier and also imo, much less annoying.
