Turbo help

So I have no knowledge at all abt turbos but I bought a 80 turbo 301 for $125 everything i looked up says the 301 is well terrible but it was the complete motor so I thought maybe I could use the turbo setup for sbc does anyone have any suggestions or if it could even work it would be nice

Re: Turbo help

Nothing from that motor will fit the SBC, I forget if thats a pontiac or olds sourced motor but I know it's not a chevy.

The turbo is likely to small for good power on any 5 liter or larger motor and is very much out dated anyway.

You might be able to turn a profit if you sell it to a collector/restorer but otherwise it was a pretty pointless aqusition.

I'm not sure where the old turbo ta's fell short but with tuning and a better turbo they might make good power, but in a world of 455 pontiacs and cheap SBC's they never caught on, the turbo buick didnt catch on until EFI and half a decade of refinement later.

Re: Turbo help

most of it was tuning and the lack of a higher octane unleaded fuel. It has an integral wastegate that only let it build 8 psi of boost. I was looking at the way its all put together and if I make a plate I can adapt it to a sbc intake. The new Grant turbo the previous owner put on it is all but outdated lol, but I honestly appreciate your input.
