does it cost a lot of $$ to upgrade the v bulletin version???

I have just come back here after 7 or 8 years and find the board somewhat clumsy compared to another one I'm on, www.v-rodforums.com.
their version of v bulletin is 3.0.8 and is WAY easier to navigate.

just curious.

I am finding it difficult to find my subscribed threads and recent posts.

just voicing my thoughts.....not trying to step on toes or be critical.

With vB, and the owned license, you get 1 year's worth of access to the members section, which allows you to update the software.

After 1 year, you have to pay $30(?) for another 1 year's worth of access.

In the past, TGO did not upgrade to vB 3.x at the time because it didn't support full-text mysql searches, which is something Dirk appeared interested in, given the large database TGO has and the searching limits it had. i don't believe Dirk wanted to put TGO through multiple updates at the time, hence, it was put off.

Only Dirk or Iroc can answer as to recently.

I am actually quite glad they have not gone to VB3. TGO seems really simple and everything seems proportional. Other sites seem guady with overly-large user information stuff.

i think what you're seeing and referring to is beyond vBulletin's forum software and really isn't just vB3.x.

vB 3.x can look similar to what you see here. Many of the sites, such as the one above, are using other applications to integrate the forums into their website. For lack of better wording my part.

While there are changes from vB 2.x to 3.x that would leave some users to learn some different features, and some that have changed, it would still be a simple forum software such as what TGO is currently using.

I didn't know that. I feel better now. I just don't like the interface on some of those sites. JT knows it all
