I meant the lack of a ground strap between the engine and body creating a static charge.

The gasket is cheap from any parts store. Why not pull the valve and verify the pintle is stuck open before taking any other action?

Rather than watching the fan, maybe hook a test light up to the connector and monitor for voltage when you start moving just to ensure you're not seeing air pressure

Once you find and correct your vacuum leak, put a vacuum gauge on it at idle and post your readings. Pay attention to any fluctuation at idle.

The angles of the center intake mounting holes will be at a different angle. You can use a die grinder to wallow the intake out a little to get it to line up. Otherwise, should match up.

I would stick with the Delco style, but only if you're going to thoroughly flush and leak test the system. Make sure you change orifice tube sizes (I believe orange is the preferred for our climate)...

Transmission will be fine to keep. Make sure you go with an 87 or up 350, otherwise you'll need a different flex plate.

This was a manual seat car with rear defrost. Adding the power for the seat is relatively easy.

Sounds like you've narrowed it down to bad switches. You can check continuity between the terminal and switch body in with a hotplate. Obviously boiling water won't exceed 212.

Near the decklid? If so, the studs come in vertically from the top, no need to pull the bumper, should be able to access with the plastic interior trim removed from the left quarter.

It was a great find, and I tried to price it fair. Its arguably a better cam than I'm sticking with (comp xe268) but the rockers, springs, and misc would have gone to waste with my heads.
