Re: Front bearing races

You don't need to get the entire tip of the punch on the lip of the race. Use the edge of a larger punch, and don't be afraid to hit it hard. Work from side to side and it will come out.

Re: Homemade ramps

That's a great idea. The ramps on my trailer are short, too, so that will help a lot. One of those "duh, why didn't I think of that" moments.

Re: Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

Fragile screws... I was tinkering with the Camaro this evening, trying to get a handle on the high idle. Seems like the PO adjusted the idle screw up to compensate for the missing MAF relay. ...

Re: Homemade ramps

I made something very similar when I had my 86 Z28, too. Regular ramps were too short/steep to get the nose past. I put a piece of rope on mine to make a handle, and something to hang them from. ...

Re: Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

The MAF relay made a huge difference in the way this thing runs. No more check engine light, either. We took it for a quick drive up the road yesterday. Other than a slightly high idle and a...

Re: Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

It Lives! We installed the new sending unit and fuel pump into the tank this evening. I'm not overly impressed with the Spectra lock ring supplied with the sending unit, but it worked. The quiet...

Re: Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

Sounds good. Autozone shows the same assembly from Spectra. I ordered the assembly last night, hopefully it will be in this week. Once it will move under its own power again I'll get it outside...

Re: Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

We managed to get the tank out. I ended up having to cut the exhaust pipe since it is a completely welded system. One of the PO's replaced the cat with a universal, and every joint is welded. ...

Re: Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

Thanks for the info on the relays, Maverick. I have confirmed that I am getting 12V to the pump, and the pump is not working. I jumpered the plug on the oil pump pressure switch and checked for...

Father/Daughter project 2.8L Camaro

My daughter and I started on her project car on Saturday. It is a '85 base model Camaro with a 2.8 & 700R4 tranny. The car has been sitting for several years, but I have driven it around the...

I'm looking for the black plastic on top of the door panels. If yours are in good shape, how much to ship to 23851?

Re: Convert V-belt to serpentine

ex, you were right about the oil pan. There is a difference in the front of the pan and the bottom of the front cover. Is the rear of the pan the same? I'll be pulling the pan and front cover off...

Re: Convert V-belt to serpentine

James,
Thanks for the links. I think the first one has the info I needed. I saw that link, I think, but thought it was only for V-8 setups. I guess I should have looked a little closer. I'll...

Convert V-belt to serpentine

I want to swap a serpentine belt setup from an '87 or '89 S-10 to my '85 2.8 Camaro. I have searched some, and found out that I have to change the front cover and water pump when I go to the reverse...

Re: Fresh paint with an immaculate body

Tyler,
That car next to the black F-body on the left is a Monza (H-body), probably around '78-79.

Re: 70's 283 in a 91

First off, you should check casting numbers on the back of the block and the code stamped in the front of the pass side of the block at the cyl head. The 283 was not availabled in the 70's. I think...

Anyway, I measured to two engine mount locations for you. I measured from the bellhousing end of the block to the bottom of three mounting bolts. ...

Re: 4.3 swap questions

Hmmm... I should have checked email before I went over to the shop. I'll have to measure tomorrow. Anyway, as stated before, you can bolt up the 4.3 to the V-8 tranny. For simplicity, I would...

Re: 4.3 swap questions

Tyler, that's not entirely true. The 4.3 V-6 was also available in the Monte Carlo from '85-88. They do use the same mounts as a SBC, but they are not in the same location on the block. IIRC, they...

Re: anyone in hampton roads/va beach?

I'm in the Franklin area, and am new to the forum. I have a '85 Camaro base model that my daughter and I will be wrenching on soon. Solid V-6/auto car, but it needs paint and interior work.
