To let heat escape. If your moving air being pushed through the radiator can escape through the cowl versus being trapped under stock hood.

I'm going to use ebl flash so I won't need the chip or ECM. Just plug and play with the ebl flash. I have thought about going carb to avoid the issues of tunning.
