If it won't start unless the timing is way advanced, and it back fires when it does. Your distributor is 180 degrees off.

check the resitance of the fuel injectors, they are notorius for going bad. They should be in the 16 ohm range. I would also check the timing. Timing should be 6 degrees advanced with the EST wire...

Check your fuel pressure. Stock pressure is 43.5 PSI. See if there are any codes stored in the computer. I would also check your TPS sensor voltage. IT should be .54 volts at idle, and 4+ volts...

.54 is where it should be with the throttle closed. I would make sure the throttle blades are opening all the way. You can take the sensor off the throttle body, and do a sweep with it still...

Then its probably the pickup coil or the ignition control module in the distributor. When my dist. took a dump I picked one up from the local wrecking yard. I think it cost me around $40.00 for it.

How old are the plugs in it? Old bad plugs will definally cause a mis. The distributors them selves are prone to failure in these cars.

When its cold, it seems to run ok. When it starts to warm up it starts doing is thing. I think the car is running really rich. Has a gassy smell when warmed up. What about the IAT sensor screwed...

Finally found a dist at one of the area salvage yards. Will hopefully get it in on Tuesday. this is what the previous owner did to the dist. that was in it. I've never seen anyone try this before.
