Re: Trouble with crush sleeve eliminator

It's 'simple': if you've got too much pinion preload, then you don't have enough shims/distance in between.
Regarding sealant on the splines: it's a good habit. I put gasket sealant to the inside...

Re: Is my loose pinion nut causing a leak?

You might or might not have overtightened the nut > resulting in too much pinion bearing preload which could lead too overheating. This might also have changed the pinion to ring gear distance and...

Re: 700R4 2-3 WOT shift flare - again - calling Dana (probuilt)

2-3 shift is about band release and 3-4 clutch apply. Going to a longer band apply pin, won't change much in the dynamics described. Flare is a result mis-synchronization in band release and clutch...

Re: 89 T/A, 700R4 won't shift till 2500 when cold

I would say your seals are (becoming) old and brittle. Therefore they don't seal/leak till you build more pressure at higher RPMs. Once oil warms up it softens the seal and they regain their sealing...

Re: Pinion Depth

Always start with the same shim (thickness) that came out of the axle. Without an old shim, 8/10 times the thickness is between 0.029 and 0.034, this should get you started.

When using a depth...

Re: Grrr- 700R4 running great except no OD

Did you install the servo assembly as one, including the cover. Or did you install the cover with the assembly in place (case)? If the latter, then you might have damaged the seal on the OD piston.

Re: 700r4 / 4l60 wont go in overdrive

Don't think that's he's problem. You need some very low gears and/or very small tires to turn 2800 rpm @ 60 mph.

Re: 700r4 / 4l60 wont go in overdrive

Corvette servo is good update. Just be sure to install it without the seals first and aim at 0.060 (1.5 mm) cover movement (retainer to fully depressed). Then install the whole assembly (with all...

Re: 700r4 / 4l60 wont go in overdrive

2-4 Band should be good since you have 2nd gear. Same applies to 3-4 clutches since you end up in 3rd gear.

I would start by taking out the 2-4 servo and checking the 4th gear piston and seals.

Not really sure what part you have exactly nicked, the pump or the stator shaft, but in both cases you should be good. If you nicked the pump where the seal sits, it could start weeping oil. Don't...

Re: 4l60e trashed rear planet

If you've done 700's, you'll be good doing a 60e.

With harsh 1-2 shifts I would start by looking at the 1-2 accumulator for a broken spring or even worse, blocked by a builder.
