Its not that 4130 is brittle - its that it unevenly so. In the areas right next to a weld, the 4130 becomes brittle. Martensite forms. Mostly because carbon gets trapped in the rapidly cooling...

There is a difference between store bought "headers" and real tuned headers. Ask the likes of burnsstainless, headersbyed, and Herb Gebler (gebler headers) and they will tell you that effectively...
