Re: No start condition

Now I had a similar problem in my 86 trans am just two weeks ago. The car would crank, there was spark, and fuel, but it wouldn't even sputter.

In my case, I had replaced the distributor cap and...

Re: No start condition

Oddly enough, searching for "crank disable relay" on google brings up my old post from 2007 when I asked about it. I called it that because the odd name in the VATS bypass instructions stuck with me...

Re: No start condition

For what it's worth, you can probably rule out VATS. I had intermittent VATS problems in my 92 camaro, and every time it would happen, the red or orange (been a few years, can't remember) "SECURITY"...

Re: Have spark, have fuel, won't start

If anyone was keeping track, after replacing the distributor, it turned out to indeed be the timing. Apparently I had it just wrong enough that the engine wouldn't even sputter.

Not sure how I...

Re: Have spark, have fuel, won't start

Replaced the ignition module. Still nothing. Just a very slight hint of a sputter.

Pickup coil tested at 800 ohms.

I think all that's left at this point is to replace the entire distributor and...

Re: Have spark, have fuel, won't start

I rreeaaallly hope you're onto something. I pulled mine off a little while ago. Vatozone gave me the wrong replacement. I'll have to get a ride to have it tested tomorrow.

Re: Part identification

Thanks, guys.

I'm a little confused though. I'm running an edelbrock performer carb, as far as I know there's nothing electrical controlling the engine.

Does the sensor still perform some kind...

Part identification

Does anyone know what this relay powers? It appears to be actuated by a vacuum line which runs to the intake manifold. The vacuum line is broken.

Bonus if this is something that would keep an...

Re: Have spark, have fuel, won't start

Cleaned the carb. Nothing obviously wrong with it, floats within spec. Replaced all spark plugs and wires. Nothing.

Old plugs were worn out, and fouled out, some smelled of fuel, others were dry....

Re: Have spark, have fuel, won't start

Just installed a new coil. Verified blue spark again, this time from a different distributor lead. Still nothing.

The butterfly valves in the carb are actuating. I noticed that the accelerator...

Re: Have spark, have fuel, won't start

Yes it does. I verified spark by popping the plug wire off of the #2 plug, putting it onto a new spark plug, grounding the body of the plug, and cranking the engine. I was able to see a clear blue...

Re: Please please help

You said the fuel pump fuse was bad, and now even after replacing it you don't hear the pump come on.

Sounds like you might have a loose/frayed wire somewhere, causing a short. That would explain...

Have spark, have fuel, won't start

I'm totally stumped.

86 trans am, 305, edelbrock performer carb.

I replaced the distributor rotor and cap, and now the car won't start. I've checked and rechecked the firing order, verified...

So my 92 Z28 died a few years ago, and now that I'm finishing school I'm going to be taking it out of storage and dropping a new engine into the frame.

The problem was that while I owned it, I...

Ticking under load

Hey everyone,

The engine in my brother's 86 TA (305, manual) makes a ticking noise, but only under load and at low RPM, from around 1000-2000.

Any idea as to what it could be?

Re: Carb Installation Trouble

While I'm here, I'm wondering what the purge does. My guess is that it has to do with trapping vapors from evaporated fuel, is that right?

TunerPro noob

How do I get the super_8dm.ECU file to work with TunerPro? When I try to load it (select XDF) nothing happens. Is there some special way to load ECU definitions? I have no problems loading .XDF files.
