2006 FALL BRAWL--WE NEED YOUR OPINION!!!
Ok --here's the deal. First, I have deleted the other 2 threads dealing with the Fall Brawl, so posts are not scattered around and everybody sees all the info pertaining to it. The threads are saved if we need to refer to them for any reason.
Sat--Nov. 18th was deemed as a good date from the poll with a vote of 13 to 0.
Second--I talked to John Hennesy --owner of the Lonestar Motorsports Park (Sealy).
At this point, he is not 100% sure of the hours they will be open on Nov. 18th. He said they will probably be operating during the day light hours--probably 11 or 12 to 5 or 6 pm. Not sure if they will be running after dark.
He also said that we are welcome to have our meet there, and they would try to accomidate as best they can (within reason) but will not give us any break on admission or tech cards to actually run on the strip. It will be 10.00 for each and every person to get on the grounds and 10.00 for a tech card.
This brings up the question, that we need to discuss, of whether having to pay 10.00 to get in will keep people from showing up. Also, if having to drive all the way out to Sealy would keep U from showing up. (Not everybody lives in Katy!!!)
If it does than we need to decide if we would have the "meet" itself in a park somewhere like we have been doing (like Bear Creek Park) and cruising out to Sealy, or just having the whole thing at Sealy, or what! If we do decide to meet in a park somewhere and then go out to Sealy, we probably need to get things started a little earlier (like maybe 10am to 1pm), and then cruise to Sealy about 1pm if Sealy will be closing at dark!
Personally, my gut feeling is, that it will keep some people from showing up, but that's just me.
So, we need to hear from people asap (and more than 3 or 4), whether having to pay 10.00 to get in, and/or having to drive all the way to Sealy, would prevent U from coming to the meet.

I personnally think hmp has been easier to deal with on these things, especially since they might only run till 6pm. I dont know but i am game for whatever yall guys want to do. hrp is a fiasco so i doubt that would wotrk. i dont fully trust hennessey and the hope that he will even be open or anything for us. I tend to beleive that seally will not turn out well. I think something like hmp would be better for the fact that it is more central to everyone then seally. By the way...I live in katy

After having some time to think about it, personally I think we should meet in a park from 10am to 2pm. That would totally eliminate the possibility of anybody not showing up because of having to pay 10.00 just to attend the gathering/meet/BBQ, or having to drive all the way to Sealy.
Since the Spring Fling was in the NW part of Hou, it only seems fair that we have the meet itself in the Sw or W part of town. I think Bear Creek Park-- (Hwy 6 and Clay rd.) where we have had it the last few years, is as good a place as any. Four hours is plenty of time for sitting around and visiting--the BBQ--ETC.
Then at 2pm we all go on a mass cruise to the Sealy drag strip. It should be a 30 minute drive at most if we have the meet at Bear Creek. We can hang out there the rest of the day, and into the night if they are open longer.
As well, with the rain date being the next day--Sun--all of the plans will work the next day, assuming LMP will be open on Sun as well. will check into that in the very near future.

Bearcreek park is fine if you want to meet early. As for the $10, if someone has a real problem with that, let me know, my treat (offer limited to first several needy persons).

It will cost me $10.00 in gas just to get TO another site.
I think having it at one location will increase attendance because it will make things so much simpler.
I vote (again) for having it all at Seally.

Right now, i'm still interested in whether there are any thirdgenners tht are planning to attend, that would not because of the admission, or the drive. If it does not, then Sealy is a done deal.

Not sure I understand how stopping at a place on the way to the track and driving 3 miles off of the freeway, would cost U 10.00 in gas, but if U say it would then I'm sure it will.

3 miles off, 3 miles on, idle around looking for the place...get lost..turn around...call for directions..find a parking spot. That will use $10.00 worth of gas in MY car.
OK, I am planning on attending and neither the drive or the $10.00 will discourage me.

-- If you plan it they will come. --
How definite is the commitment from the track manager?
I'll be there, admission or not.
Since mine is still under construction,
I won't need the track pass.
Is the food topic next to be tackled?

Food thread will be put up about 2 weeks before the meet , IF we are allowed to bring a small portable BBQ and burn some hot dogs. That subject unfortunately was included in my email to him, but not discussed when he called me. It was quite obvious he was trying to get of the phone after about 30 seconds, until he ended the conversation. It was not discussed. They do have concession stands there.
If we do end up doing the park thing before going to the strip, we can burn some dogs there.
Now before this gets blown out of proportion, or anybody takes what I am saying, the wrong way, I am 100% in favor of doing the whole thing at Sealy. I have been since ESC suggested we do it that way.
However, due to the really crappy turnouts that we have had the last couple times, if there are any significant number of people that say they will not attend because of the reason we are discussing here, I think we should do the park, cruise, strip, instead of just meeting at Sealy for the whole thing. That's all I am advocating here.
If having it at Sealy means a turnout of 5 or 6 people as opposed to double that number if we have it at the park then cruise to Sealy, then that is what we should do--IMO!

If it makes a big difference, I'm willing to go someplace free...but I don't expect it will.

i think meeting up at bear creek and then cruising out to sealy is perfect. $10 bucks or not, i'll be there. money's no object for some. i trust hennesey and i trust sealy. i wouldn't care if i had to drive out to baytown for this thing and i live in katy. i just think sealy would be a change. and a good change, at that. sealy has a lot more room for us and the track is awesome. especially if they're going to be doing 1/8th mile and 1/4 mile.
whatever ya'll are down for. i'll be there.

Let's give this subject a couple more days--see wht kind of response we get, and plan accordingly.
COME ON PEOPLE--WE NEED TO HEAR FROM U ABOUT WHETHER TO HAVE IT 100% AT THE SEALY TRACK OR MEET IN BEAR CREEK PARK AND THEN CRUISE OUT TO SEALY!

I agree for all at Sealy. One benefit would be as a large group of thirdgens it would be easy to have other thirdgen owners see our group and possibly stop by and get more info about coming to meets and joining on thirdgen.org

I'm also thinking 100% at the track is better, but for a completely different reason.
We have been lucky in the past. The cruise from the meet to the track has always gone ok, but a lot of people get that car nut feeling and start doing some pretty stupid stuff on the way to the track. If you've been you know what I'm talking about. I think it would be better for people to just be able to drive right to the strip, burnout, and go, opposed to doing it on the streets on the way there.
Not trying to single anyone out, I just feel that safety should definitly be thought of.

ten dollars in gas???? its going to cost me 70 or 80 to come down from fort worth. wherever its at ill be there, ill let you local guys figure that out. i dont know whats down there.
zap it seems like you will have to open another poll for where its going to be. there seems do be alot of different opinions.

Unfortunately, there has been a very low number of thirdgenners responding to the subject. Sure hope there is a bigger turnout for the meet, than there are responding here!

I plan on showing up. money is no big deal. 100% at Sealy is good for me. only avout 90 miles away it think. should have any kinks worked out and it should be a good first meeting for me.
