The reason i will never paint my car

This happened about 20 minutes ago, old guy in his 60s hit and burned off in the parking lot, my dad cought a look at him, hope we meet again....

I have another driver side door, i guess ill try and get it on today or tomorrow, allways something, i bet he has SSI and couldnt afford his insurance to be higher...if the bastard even noticed. Old folks need to pass a test when they are over 60 in order to keep their liscense.

Just happened to notice the post. Very sorry about the vehicle. Guess I need to take a test or perhaps because I'm 61, my license should simply be revoked. Danged old farts anyway!

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

It's not the age, it's the way you have been raised. This guy is just another butthead that we all have to deal with. Three days ago some idiot(age 32) took the front end off my truck and he kept on going, that is until his tire buckled under his car.He then had me and two others that also substained damage to their cars to deal with. The only reason he is in one piece is because he was a big fat(and I mean grossly obese) slob and quite frankly, kicking his butt would have been no fun due to the fact that it would have been so easy to do! Also had no insurance(what else is new). But, he took a trip to the Harris Co. jail for leaving the scene of an accident plus warrants for unpaid tickets. However you look at it, it takes money out of my pocket and yours because a lot of people care nothing about anything but themselves.Sorry for your troubles, hope repair works out.

Well, some are fine at 60+ but i know many that are blind, senile, not mentally there and or just dont pay attention...repair is going. U need the LARGE rivets, i just bought the ones that were too small, so another trip to the parts house is in order.

heh

Sucks man, i've seen people back up into other cars and then just take off so many times. Does suck to have to pay out of pocket on something like that.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

My wife saw this lady (not that old) pull in to a grocery store parking lot space that happened to have a cart in it. She pushed the cart in to the brand new car in the next space, backed up and did it again 2 more times, leaving the cart on the other cars hood. She then backed up a couple of feet so that she was not touching the cart and went in side.

When I came out and my wife told me what had happened we waited around for the guy with the new car to come out and told him just what had happened. Was he ever pissed! Of course the lady denied everything...even with an eye witness. I don't think she had insurance either.

Then there was the time I was at Otto's and a lady in a SUV dinged my door while I was standing right there and just pretended nothing happened. I guess she was trying to demonstrate for her daughter how to take responsibility for your actions.

Th bottom line is that the world is full of people with no respect for themselves or others.

Anyway, my rant aside, that's a bummer that one of them got your car Zane.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

The hit and run thing happens a lot, it douse not have to do with an age thing. however i do feel that there should be a cretin age that old people have to take the road test over again, or many after so many incidents in a period of time. A lot of older people have a hard time dealing with the fact that they are losing it, i don't blame them this has to be depressing on them.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

that sucks. but its not an age thing.
not long after i got my Monte Carlo i was at work & a guy about 22~26 parked right next to my car. he parked too close to start with, then on top of that he banged his door into my car not once, not twice, but 7 or 8 times. 3 of us stood there & watched him do it. i was more than a little pissed. when i confronted him, of course he said he never touched my. he didn't think it was too funny when i got on top of his hood & the top of his car and jumped up & down on them a few times. now, the space i was parked in was the farthest from the front door of the shop. there were 3 cars in the parking lot, that includes his, there were about 20 empty parking spaces altogether.

that wasn't the first time some jackass had parked too close & hit my car.
some here have seen my car, out of all the dents & bent sheet metal on it, 1 is my fault where i tagged a pole on my carport backing under it. i knew better than to back in on the unpaved side when it had been & still was raining as hard as it was that night

it looks like the door isn't bent too bad. i ran across a how to a while back that may be of use to you. it deals with smoothing metal body panels instead of using filler,

I see more 16-25 year olds hit & run, than 60+.

If you keep getting hit, you mentioned a young girl hitting your car. could it be your parking habits are a contributing factor? iearking right ON the parking space line? OVER the line? Out from the curb?

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

You could park on the moon and SOMEONE would figure out a way to ding your door!

It's simple mathmetics, there are just too many people that either don't care, or worse, want to smash your car because they are jelous, or maybe just in a bad mood. If you park in a public place, you will sustain damage eventually.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

Ok had to share my story after reading all of these hehe! My stories:

[1] I parked my brand new jeep at the back of the parking lot where there were absolutely no other cars. I go into the store and come out, was about 10 mins, and lo and behold - a car parked next to me and a ding on the door. I waited 20 minutes for the person to come out and no one came. Sadly I was working and had to get back on the road.

[2] That same jeep, parked at work, was dinged by my BOSS. The parking area we have is very uneven in places, like the loading dock area. I was parked near the door so I could unload my stuff then go home. His door swung so hard that the Jeep shook. His reaction to my "WTF!!!" face? "It's only a car".....

[3] I hope you're still reading cause this one is the best. I had to return my cellphone for repairs and in that parking lot was only one space and it was narrow. Hoping to get in and out before the others came back, i parked. While I was packing up my phone into it's box the guy parked on my side came out. I motioned to him "one sec" and started to put my stuff on the passenger seat so I could back out so he could get in.

Before I could even do that, he PURPOSELY slammed his door into my brand new 07 Caliber. So now I'm livid. I open my door, slam it into his and get out. I guess he didn't realize how big I am and he looked quite worried. I start to say to him what I was going to do for him but he wouldn't even roll down the window and off he went. I noted which way he went just to see if he would be going the same direction I would be, and it was.

So I drop off my phone and hop in my car and proceed to go home. Well lo and behold there he is. He's going the same direction as I am for about another few miles. Then we get to an intersection and this is where the greatest act of Karma I have ever witnessed took place. There are two lanes, a truck in the left lane with a few cars behind it and a car in the right lane. he sees the truck and starts to go into the right lane. Just as he's changing into the right lane, the last car in the left lane quickly swerved over to the right - SLAMMING INTO THE SIDE of the car with the discourteous driver that dinged my door. I was shocked. Now, it doesn't end here.

The guy that hit "discourteous driver" didn't stop there. He literally rode "DD" off the road, pushed him so far over that his entire car was almost on the shoulder with 2 wheels hopping the curb. They slid side by side fighting for position for a good 50-75ft. The guy that hit "DD" made a right and sped away, while "DD" was sitting in the intersection wondering what the hell just happened.

As I went around the corner I looked him right in the eye, gave a wave and a thumbs up with a big smile on my face and laughed as I proceeded on my way.

[4] I had my caliber 2 weeks, and the neighbour was going to spray his fence with some sealant so he mentioned that I should move my car so it wouldn't get any overspray on it from the backyard. So I did. it was on the street for about 30 minutes at most, and a kid on the street put a 6" streak on the driver door when he lost control of his bike and the handle found it's way to my car....

It's funny how it seems like if you don't give a damn about your car - nothing happens to it. This stuff never happens to the work truck I used to drive, or rentals, etc. It's like caring for keeping your car (or anything for that matter) looking nice - something always happens. At least for me lol

Thanks for reading if you read it all

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

Had mine for about a week before my immediate supervisor backed into it, even though there was a empty parking spot between the back of his (company) truck, and the front of my car. And there was no need to even back up at all.

About 2 weeks later, while at a medical facility for children, I had parked way out from the other cars. (the back 40 I believe) Well I finished with the job and was speaking to the guy that runs the facility, and as I was leaving, he casually mentioned, "Oh, BTW, I backed into your car, but it's ok, I barely scratched it." Barely to this guy was a horizontal scratch about 20"s long and 4" wide across the nose.

Sorry about the damage ZONES89RS. I hope the repair goes smoothly.

No stephen, the old guy that hit me was far enough away i could open my door ALL the way, you know that is allot on theese cars.

The girl....pulled out of a church parking lot while i was going down the road.....like i wasnt there...

I knew it would happen, i put the primer sealer on the car and the same week a big chip was missing from the same door from an asshat hitting it. So....there will never be a paint job on my RS.

Man you guys have some funny stories.

Once a rather obeese woman crawled out of her chrysler(350lbs+) and hit my 86 TA hard enough to make it rock, the car needed paint but it was still the fact it happened, i watched it while i was eating. She didnt even acknowledge it happened, on my way out i keyed the side of that bitch so bad i had my right hand colored in chrysler tan.

Another tome my buddy parked hit POS mustang nevt to my 90 RS so that the drunken friend of his opened the door and pit a nice little dent in the rear quartep pannel, they both said it wasnt their fault....friends. The bad part is he could parked 5-70 feet away, but "I didnt wanna park under the trees and get sap on my car..." Was his response.

See...I would be grabbing a BIG bar, walking over to his car, with him watching, aiming for the windshield....."It's ONLY a car dude.." Just to see his face. Don't actually break it (where he can see you!) but act like it, to see how full the seat of his pants get!

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

My best friend backed in my passenger door. I was pulling out of the driveway of this girl he was messing around with and when I went forward all I saw was a big black spot and didn't want to take the chance of it being a huge pot hole so I stopped and backed up to go around it....he backs up right into my door and says..."why did you back up??? that's only a 1-2inch drop???" I didn'tk now it was a little 1-2inch drop, in the dark it could be anything.....why didn't he look into his rear view mirror???????? He still blaims it on me. I'll have him replace my door one of these days.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

I'm going to have my car painted soon and after reading all of these I'm seriously thinking about having a bat in the cargo area to fix people that think it's only a car. They'll be thinking twice about that when they have to replace their headlight fixtures at a couple of hundred bucks a pop. Boss or not.
You spend all of this money, stress over what paint and where to get it painted for the best results and some dumb*** still thinks it's only a car. People just don't care any more, they don't take any responsbility for there actions, it's desgusting.

Maybe I should just paint my car flat black and be done with it... easy touch-ups.

Man, it must be nice to have your car trashed one day and fixed a couple days later.

I know my car's paint isn't perfect, but keeping it as good as possible is a chore. My car is a magnet for crazy stuff happening to it. The original owner had the car out of the bodyshop with all of it's modifications done for less than 12 hours before hitting a deer.

I got the car out of the paintshop the last time and in less than a month I was rear ended. Now I have to repaint my back bumper.

Although a PITA to have to mess with it, yea, it is verry convenient. I seriously will prolly never paint it.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

At 44 I've never been in a wreck, but if I paint my car I know it will be totaled in a week. Don't wanna jinx myself. I don't worry about the dings cause it is just too much trouble. I may paint it this time tho as I have to park with the BMWs, Lexus (Lexi?), and Mercedes at work.

I used to try to avoid dings in my Camaro. Parked in the south forty one time and came out of the mall to find joe dirt next to me in the most ragged out, 4 different tired, two rim sized, no exhaust, rusted, falling apart piece of xxxx Camaro that I'd ever seen. Gave up.

Re: The reason i will never paint my car

I know how you guys feel. I can't stand it when people ding my damn car. The first day I ever drove my 'maro to school (community college) I came out and there were 4 dings. Not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 different ****ing dings in the driver side door. All different colored paint. I know my car's not perfect, but its not a POS with a sign that says "please hurt me" on it.

Now that I have my kia, I dont bring the camaro to school anymore. But anywhere I go in it I park in the very last spot now.
