Next year....... ALL read please, need input!

Obviously this year has been screwed for alot of us due to IKE and problems with cars, lack of interest, crap-hole economy, etc...... Therefor we did not have a major gathering this fall/winter.

Please put down your current status of being able to attend a meet next year that way if there is something any of us can do to help you make the meet next year, then we can help you.

Also, when would you like to have it? (Summer / Nov,DEC)

It seems like people usually only commit to one big show (not so much the smaller ones). So, I'm planning now to try and make a decent event with a decent turnout of people and I'm starting to plan it now if you all are still interested.

My status: The family and I are ok, the car is still down because I just got arround to replacing all the front steering components (idler arm, drag link, inner and outer tie rods and sleeves) and now it needs a front end alignment which it will get on Tuesday. Then it will be drivable again.

I'm open to a summer meet, but we've had the best turnouts in December.

So, just seeing what everyone's situation is and if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.

I hope you all have a good and safe X-mas and new year!

Mike (1bad91Z)

Re: Next year....... ALL read please, need input!

Im down for anytime of the year, other the first two weeks of december, and first two of may, thats when finals are. My house/family is all ok, as is the camaro, clutch is fixed, everythings working now, there is some random leak from my rear end, i think its the vent on the top of the diff, not sure, but i'll know on thursday, and my inspection is out, trying to get around that one im also in favor of more than meet a year, i liked the idea of 1/4'ly meets, but the one i went two was me and eric (esc), so that was disappointing, but it does indicate that one yearly meet would be better i guess

Last December's meet was great but a bit cool and breezy. A late Spring/Early Summer would be better, but the weather here as we all know is totally unpredictable. Whatever you decide is fine for me. As long as work does not interfere, I can be there.

BTW,UPS lost my AFR heads and TPIS Mini-ram intake. They freaked and are "looking" for my parts. I believe they were stolen in transit as they never were delivered to my house. Paid for plenty of insurance so my loss will be covered, but now I have to have all the port-matching and milling redone which once again only delays my engine swap.I also bought a LS1 driveshaft from a guy on LS1Tech and it arrived dented. Again a UPS issue. I recieved my money back from the seller with no problems. The saga continues....

I haven't been checking here very often since it has been so slow lately. Zane and I are both moderators on www.lsxnation.net , which has been up for almost a year and has been doing well. If any of you guys want to check out our weekly meets and dinners check out the site. We have a good group of guys.Currently the camaro is in the garage and I believe needs a new starter. I recently bought an 05 GTO to daily drive so if the camaro isn't running I will be in that one. Last week I found out my wife is 6 weeks pregnant so that may be a factor in if I attend or not.

Negative here. I won't be back in the area long-term for quite a while. This is my last long break home before I commission in May. After that I'll be active duty and will be in Florida for at least the next 2 years after that.

Funny how the same thing happened to my ported Trickflow heads and LT1 intake shipped through FedEx. Got "lost" in Ft. Worth.

I think a get together sometime down the road would be great. I haven't checked in on this board in a while.

Car is at hawks for a major overhaul.... new ls? (still undecided) motor, paint etc etc.
I don't think it will be ready by this summer. But I would still go to a major meet. Mike, it was good to hear from you today..keep in touch

Wife and me are ok , Car has just been sitting since I've been working on my classic and attend a meet from one of the classic car sites every month. They have an excellent turn out rain or shine.

Camaro's inspection is due January, just got registration renewed this month. Got lazy with the camaro, I'm planning to goto the Pearland cruise this Friday with it. Spring meet would be good.

The job in MI ended mid-year, current gig is in DFW, so I can get back to
Houston on week-ends. Beyond that, my schedule is very flexible, so if
you call it, I'll be there. (The red-bird is more together than when it left
for MI, but still a while from being operational.) Look forward to seeing
old & new faces.

My car's still on jackstands in the shop - but hopefully by Summer it will be on the road again. I prefer the Summer meets - nothing like cruising with the windows down and listening to your own/others engine(s).

Re: Next year....... ALL read please, need input!

Well I took the Firebird off my insurance to save money, and now Ive let the registration expire. Pretty much lost interest this year and haven't driven the car more than around the block. If I had a place to store it I could get it out of my garage and make some room. I've thought about selling it, still not sure. Hopefully I'll get back into it and keep it. No one is going to pay anything for a totally non practical car like mine in this economy anyway.

I'll keep in touch on here and see what happens

Happy new year everyone.

You know me, i just need a time and date for a meet, down side is the 89 is not running, between a rod knock and parts borrowed from it to get my 95 Z28 running i have not had a chance to mess with it since my 86 TA is priority because i have put it off long enough, it will make my wife happy to get the 86 done with new engine, body work ect, got a daytona turbo hood from the swap meet and installed it, she loves it.

Cool, as long as you can bring some form of a thirdgen to the meet, then that's all that matters! (Even if it's the wife's)

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope '09 is much better than the crap year we just had!

I'm kind of new to third gen, and my 91 v6 bird needs some body work but hopefully it will be done by summer. The 6 to 8 swap probably won't be but maybe by the next year. I would love a meet. December is a bad month for me Christmas and B days. Summer would be better plus there's nothing like a nice summer day with the t tops off. Just let me know

Re: Next year....... ALL read please, need input!

All thirdgenner's are more than welcome and strongly encouraged to attend!

Over the last ten years or so, I and the late Craig (Zap Racing), have organized at least one major Houston area gathering per year. We did not have a major event in 2008 for many reasons such as the ones listed in my 1st post of this thread. Now that Craig has passed away, it pretty much leaves me to get everyone together which believe me, is a big task itself.

At these events, we typically have 20 - 30 cars, sometimes more. We all bring at least one small item for the BB-Q (which we sign up for on a separate thread). There is ALWAYS more food than we can eat, so you will all leave with a full stomach! New members and friends finally meet face to face and some old friends reunite. We take pictures and in the past have made up some awards for different categories, and twice, T-shirts were made for the events. Some members even outside the Houston area have made the trip to hang out with our Houston area group, and they are more than welcome to.

Sometime in the next few weeks, I'm going to post a thread about the gathering we will setup for this year.

There should be a decent turnout, as a few more of my friends have completed or will have completed by then their projects.

Mike (1bad91Z)
