88 Trans am in need of some help.
First i would like to thank who ever reads this and offer's any advice in solving some problems i am having.
To start i have a 88 trans am GTA 305 5.0 TPI that's having a few issues.
Issue number one - i have taken the vehicle to auto zone, and o rileys to assume to get the trouble codes read so i can find out why the check engine light is one, both places were unable to pull any codes and offered no answers. the light never blinked even once during the process of trying to read them.
issues number two - Figuring it was time for a few new items i decided to throw some new plugs into the car figuring no one had changed them in a while, after changing them 1 by 1 as to not mix up the wires everything went smooth.
After changing the plugs and firing it up it sat at idle and sounds just fine ( at lest to me ) but if applying gas slowly it revs perfectly fine if you attempt to give it gas quickly it seems to be backfiring thru the intake.
if anyone has any ideas on the possible fix to these issues i would very much appreciate it , if any more info is needed just let me know and i will do what i can to get you that information.
Thanks.

Best way to get any motor to backfire though the intake is to set the timing to close to TDC.
Do you own a timing light?

Unfortunately i don't i assume i could get one from auto-zone to check but honestly know nothing about the hole timing thing.
would it have changed somehow from driving it up onto the ramps and changing the plugs?
as before the plugs were changed this had not happened except for Maybe once if memories serves.
Thanks.

The ECM refusing to display codes:
I had this issue about a week ago and I replaced the ECM and it started flashing by grounding the A-B terminals at the ECM. I do NOT mean to assert that is what is wrong with your car, but this is what fixed mine. Symptoms were the same SES light on and it would just stay illuminated when AB were grounded.

Thats about what i have been reading about what did it run replacing it, or is it viable to pull one from a junk yard but then dose exact year and everything matter?

1227165 is interchangeable on V8 TPI cars from 86 to 89. Just swap your PROM (MEMCAL is correct term for these years) over. It does sound like its running in limp home mode. It will run just enough to get you home but will run like total crap. Its possible that you have a bad MEMCAL but I've never seen a MEMCAL go bad.
Couple threads in here might help TPI Basics and ECM Upgrade:

What type of spark plug did you remove?
What type of spark plug did you put in?
Did you change cap and rotor at the same time?
