My Dealer told me i would have to have the car towed to the shop and everything replaced for about $500. B.S! I can Get one from Classic ind. $65. Does The ecm store a certain value, Or can i just dreop one in and go

Re: V.A.T.S the Hell

You could have a locksmith make a key just for the cut and somewhere on here there is a list of resistances used, get1 resistor of each value and temp put it into the VATS wires coming out the bottom of the column until you find the right value that lets you start. then whatever value # the resistor that worked have a key made with that value. Probably take a while and whatever it would cost to have the key made and the resistors, but I would guess a lot less than 500.

You will more than likely have to prove to a bunch of people you actually are the owner of the car.

Re: V.A.T.S the Hell

IF you can find someone with a car they are parting out you can get the module, keyset and the switch and pop it into your car. i had 2 parts cars not long ago and i had all of this but i let the modules go with the cars but saved the keys and coulms. wished id saved the mods and i woulda sent ya the stuff for dirt to help ya out. best bet is what i sugguested. the mod is behind the HVAC controls but if the car is being pulled apart it should be easier to access.

Re: V.A.T.S the Hell

Can't you disable the VATS in the ecm if you know someone that can tune chips?

I dont know how it works with stock ecms though.

Re: V.A.T.S the Hell

me personally i wouldnt want mine disabled. a friend had his car ripped and his vats was off, after he got his car back he had it turned on. iv heard of more than 1 story where vats has saved someone a stolen car.
but yes, you can have the vats turned off but you would need a zif socket and a chip to copy your program to and the tuner just flips a box in the programming and the rest stays the same no sweat.

moates.net (i think thats right) has all he chip gear ya need to do this.

Re: V.A.T.S the Hell

Probably not what you want to do here, but I ran an override starter button to the starter wire past the VATS system and concealed the button so it's not obvious. As it turns out, since the VATS isn't working properly, half the time it wont start with the key and it has the correct resistance value. That's when I use the button. I consider it an anti-theft even if my keys get stolen. Anyway, my wiring system had some issues anyway from previous hack jobs that I didn't mind running this properly while I was in there fixing some of the previous hacks. Just an idea.
