Police crackdown

This 100+ cop crackdown on car enthusiast (accused street racers) on the left coast is down right scary.

Re: Police crackdown

You need the whole story before you pass judgement. The cops were not called out to handle the "street racers." The cops were called out to handle the idiotic, unruly trash that was destroying the parking lot and harassing the regular customers of the businesses there. There were burnouts in the parking lot, littering, drinking, smoking, drugs, gambling, and who knows what else going on there. It just happened to be a bunch of street racers commiting the crimes, but it was the problems they were causing, and not just because they are street racers, that caused the police to take action.

Re: Police crackdown

damn. i would be super pissed if that would have been me getting one of those ridiculous tickets for a "modified car".

Kevin, i could understand your view. the parking lot everybody around my area hangs in tends to have trash left in it along with the r i c e r s doing their "burnouts" when leaving. but how can they be harassing customers? what business is open at 11 at night?

Re: Police crackdown

I admit to a rush to judgment; I apologize. Pitiful as I accuse others of it. Thanks Kevin.

Re: Police crackdown

Way to go California!

As least, here in TX, no matter WHAT illegal mods are on a car, you can't be ticketed for a modified street car, when it's not on a street.

Trailer it there, unload, & drive around IN THE LOT all you want. No tickets. Now, if you start doing burnouts, donuts, asked to leave(loitering) but don't, etc., you can still get ticketed, but for reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, etc. But not for a non-street legal car...in a parking lot.

Worse they can, and did one location at the request of the businesses, is line up several wreckers. The business passed out flyers saying this was the last night for the "car show" Next weekend, you'll be asked to leave, or get impounded for loitering & towed.

Re: Police crackdown

I love the part that says "warrantless searches".....
.....Ummm don't we have little things called "rights".
If I were there I would have had a big problem with the reasonless search.... And questions about preformance aftermarket parts "if it is not for racing then why buy it? Are you kidding me. Lets see. Our local police chief has a 68 corvette with a 454. One LT has a decked out mustang shelby cobra. Last but not least I know of another officer with a porsche! Yet these articles seem to say that only people with hot rods drive fast and recklessly. All that this really comes down to is INCOME! Easy money for the towns and states.

From the article gatorcola posted after you did:

Neighboring business managers at Hooters Restaurant and John's Incredible Pizza are glad the problem was addressed. At times, they said, cars speed through their parking lots, threatening the safety of others and scaring away customers.
Hooters and Pizza are open late.

Also, the reason why they are calling it a street-racing bust is because they got state funds to crack down on illegal street racing. If they issued tickets for something other than "illegal street racing modifications" then they wouldnt get the money from the state. Its all about the money.

Re: Police crackdown

I'm all for it. Cops have probable cause to look under the hood if your exhaust is louder than the legal limit--which was almost certainly the case (with their lawnmower fart mufflers).

The car crowd was disturbing the peace and discouraging customers from local business. Even if all the businesses were closed, I'm sure people in the nearby neighborhood don't want rice noise while they try to sleep.

The rice thing aside, that crowd would be unacceptable even if it were us. I haven't been out to a socal meeting yet, but I'm sure ricky and ronnies appreciates the business and everyone is respectful.

If you're hauling *** and doing burnouts in a public place, you're asking for trouble. I say GOOD BUST.

Re: Police crackdown

This video should be shown to every ***** driving like fools in places where we meet and get kicked out of because of their stupid stunts.
If I was there I probably would show the cops (and their parents) the video.
Either that or just beat the snot out of them and their cars.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION???

Re: Police crackdown

The first article, makes it seem like it was a "car show" and police just happened to do a raid on it. THAT would tick me right off, as i love car shows.

HOWEVER, it was just a bunch of people gathering together and raising havick. The cops clearly gave them chances, because the cops had to observe this for weeks, and the businesses had to get involved to get them off the lot. I doubt you would feel very comfortable if you owned a business, and people started showing up in your lot, in huge numbers to cause havick. I sure as hell wouldnt ask them to leave, for fear of injury. SO i guess the cops had to get involved.

MOST organized car shows, are actually praised. For example, we have 2 HUGE ones here in ottawa. One in the east end, and one in the west. The malls, allocate a section (now an entire side) of the parking lot, on tuesdays, and wednesdays for the enthusiasts to come and show off their cars. There's prizes and everything, AND THE SHOW IS ACTUALLY ORGANIZED WITH THE MALL's co-operation. Theres volunteers to direct traffic and everything inside the lot.

It attracts huge crowds, which means $$$ for the mall during summer (the dead season for sales), so why not?

as for the video, mommy and daddy would be mad if they seen how their son was driving the car they paid for and paid to rice out
