[FL] statewide meet. any interest?

I have been considering trying to do a statewide meet. I have called several large malls and actually have a mall which would like to help do this, but obviously they want liability insurance etc. I have priced it out but need to get an idea of if anyone is even interested. Its going to take 60 cars at $10 a piece to make this viable. Insurance is $575 and thats a 2 mil agregate policy with up to 1500 cars.

What the mall will offer us is assistance in advertising, a chained off portion of the parking lot to provide foot traffic only, and a heavy security presence.

I want to also do participation plaques and trophies or plaques to best in class. Obviously I would like this to be third gen only, but may have to be open and willing to expand the show to get enough cars to cover cost.

My initial thoughts are a $10 early registration and $20 after whatever the cut off date is. I have to have a cut off date to provide the mall with a car count so they know how much parking lot needs to be blocked off.

This is all in the early stages so nothing is set in stone I really just want to gauge interest at this point.

If your interested in a FL state wide meet please just post below and we'll see where this goes.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

Forgot to mention if we have more cars and cover the costs easily the remaining proceeds will go to a charity. This is stictly a non profit event. I am also considering a 50/50 raffle on site

not sure I would have enough time to pull things together with that short a time line. I am not saying no, but I need to do more research.

I'm in. And as Jay said March/April would probably be the best time to do it. Where is the mall that is willing to help do this located?

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

New Mall between Ft Myers/Naples, just off the interstate, been open about 2 years. Not sure I can disclose it yet, but they have all kinds of food everything from Subway to Ruth Chris Steakhouse. I think they even have Coconut smoothies there. If I had to Point any one thing I like about the mall is its upscale and on any given day you can see some nice foreign cars (maserati's bently's etc) and FGCU is pretty close also so hot coed's.

Dover I used to live in the Brandon area..lol small world.

edit yeah definitely not rainy season part of why Oct was in the mix its not quite as hot and the rain is greatly diminished. March would work weather wise just not sure if thats enough lead time or if we would have the support.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

I know, I put rainy season in parenthesis on purpose. I think march/april would be enough lead time as far as getting it setup with the mall...the problem is that you need 60 3rd gens. To get that many the word would have to spread a lot.

Yea, at best when we had the one meet here in Tampa we had 8 cars. And that included Jay comin up from Ft. Meyers. Maybe we could open this up to other camaros also, although that would probably switch the emphasis to 1st, 2nd and 4th gen because we always seem to take a backseat to them currently. Pulling 60 from florida is doable but is going to require alot of effort on the part of people organizing the event. I think the timetable is good, and ill lend any help i can offer, im busy with school alot but if there is anything i can do ill try.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

Glad to see this is garnering some support.

I called today and priced dash plaques and trophies. Running rough numbers I may need to change the cost to 15 bucks. Its not that I want to but I think everyone would like a dash plaque just for showing up and trophies for first in class.

I am making a quick tenative list just to keep up with responses. This is not an iron clad list just a way for me to track things here. I have this posted other places and I am doing basically the same thing.

If i still have my IROC when this happens, I will be there, if I don't have it, then hopefully I'll have another thirdgen to drive out there (fingers crossed for a t-top bird).

Do you have a location yet? How long of a drive it is will determine who comes also.

Not set yet, just a location recommended that was willing to work with us to put on this meet. Raato...going to south FL rather than central could be a problem for some.

Don't worry about whether it's done or not...most of us don't have ours done. I'm one to vouch for having done almost nothing in the past few years.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

you guys might want to consider a central location in fla, that way any travel would be somewhat equal for all to drive.
But that would also be dictated by where your most interest is being generated from.
Ft myers from Tampa is roughly 2 hrs, add at least another 45 mins from Orlando, Daytona would be a minimum of 3 hrs, Ocala is about 3 1/2hrs etc......

Yeah this is more of a South Florida event with a location like that. Ocala/Orlando is about as central as you can get. I'd be down for one in that area. I have friends that will come to Orlando (five hour drive from NW Florida) with a trailer and pick me up if something goes wrong. I don't think I'd get them down to Ft Myers very easily!

If you decide to do something up there then post it up.. I need an excuse to go up there and remove some stuff from storage.. I used to live there for a couple of years... Besides the 7.5 hr trip through the backroads is a blast...

And as far as the other meet.. Im in.. but im ussually always in as a few of you already know....

I might be interested by that time...I'm currently working on my third gen bird, if bird's are allowed, but have a 4th gen bird to fall back on for an entrant if it gets expanded at all to encompass other generation f-bodys. Just keep my name on a list for info. forwarding for when things get more set in stone.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

My thought was to start the first one in Orlando area (see how things go), then move around the state, North side of Miami (like Fort Lauderdale) , Daytona/Jacksonville area, Tallahassee/Panama City area, then Sarasota/Fort Meyers area. However, for this to work, a person or persons would have to step up in each of these areas.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

Guys/Gals I think its great everyone wants to do something, but most want a more central location. I dont have the connections to get this done in Orlando, but I can assist whomever wants to run with it.

Update, I called the Muscle Car Museum in Punta Gorda since I heard they do car shows there. They do not require insurance to have a show, but they charge $500/event. Since all they have is a little diner with seating for 40 people I still think the mall is the way to go. The museum will not chain off an area but they will provide people to assist us. Security will not be like at the mall either.

I have been trying to come up with a way to make everyone happy, but obviously that is not going to happen. Too many people with too many agendas. Currently I dont have enough support for just third gens so I may be forced to expand this to classic car show. Is this a deal breaker for anyone?

Also there will be no proceedes from this event all proceedes above the costs will be dontated to a childrens charity.

This is not a forgotten issue it just takes leg work behind the scenes so even if i am not posting about it that doesnt mean its a dead issue.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

I have no issue wherever or however it works out. My only concern is not having my third gen done in time for an event. I have a fourth gen. though and would still be willing to do the pre determined entry amount...especially if this is a charity event. Basically, I just would like to be kept in the loop as well for whatever gets decided.

Re: [FL] statewide meet. any interest?

Raato..i think it should be in the center of the state to be fair to everyone..it could even be cool..if all the miami/ftlauderdale guys(south florida area) meet up..then you northern florida guys meet up..and take a drive together up to the meet..almost like a cruise..mini cruise..but it could still prove interested. Plus it seems alot of us worry about the condition of our cars..so if anything does break(heaven forbird) we have a bunch of guys that know about thirdgens to help out..so ur not stuck out in the middle of know where by yourself. I mean its just an idea.. trying to make everyone happy here. So i think it needs to be in the center of florida..somewhere around orlando just be fair to everyone.

And if we cant get the amount of thirgeners to do the $500 downpayment...i guess we could get other people to come to...even if they dont drive gm f bodys. Im just trying to keep idea alive..cause its a great idea..bring lots of food too..a eat ALOT hahaha. But either way...keep us updated..i have no problem putting down more then required money wise to keep this idea alive

raato, if you can put this together for the Fort Meyers area, I will come to it. March/April would be best for me to attend, since the '87 has been missing its AC for 14 years. This is a huge undertaking for you, so I will come your way.

Being in the tampa area...i'll try to get it closer here as it's more central for all floridians. There is a 'fantasy of flight' place between tampa and orlando that I may see if they can accomodate us. I don't know what you all would rather have...a mall so outsiders can see our cars as well, or a remote place like that so we could all meet up. If it is decided to try in Tampa or Orlando, i'll do what I can to find a location and set everything up.
