My 89 camaro was running perfectly then about 1/2 miles from home, it suddenly cut off as if I'd hit the ignition switch and wouldn't start back. It would turn over and wanted to start but wouldn't. At first I thought it was out of gas so I put gas in it and it still did the same thing, wouldn't start. It would turn over but still wouldn't start... It's a V8 and concerned that possibly the timing jump or the timing chain broke cause now when it turns over, it makes a racket...could this be the issue, plus if it is, would it cause the pistons/valves to meet causing even more problems, possibly with the crankshaft or cam ??

Start at the basics, check for spark and fuel, check for error codes stored in the computer. You see a lot more thirdgens with a bad fuel pump or ignition module, than a mechanical sudden death.

I had it towed to the garage below my house and went there this morning and we, the mechanic and I went over it...it almost started but then decided not to...after turning it over a few times and listening to the rattling, we more less confirmed it was the timing chain...he's running a diagnostic on it, then gonna look inside at the timing chain. If that's the problem, we'll take it from there...
