Anyone know shop in Tempe/Mesa that's good with Quadrajets?
I can't get my car to pass emisssions at all. I've already put about $1500+ into it for parts and labor.
Original I only failed the NOX by 2 points. My CO passed with flying colors.
After first round of repairs and labor the NOX passed but CO failed.
Nothing else seemed wrong.. it was just a matter of tuning. No one at the shop really knew how to work on carbs except the owner. He fixed a leak in the carb and tuned it... it then failed both. He said I would end up spending alot of money just to get it to pass and then it would fail next year.
His suggestions: collector car insurance (can't =( b/c I don't have a garage). Or swap for regular carb (don't want to do that b/c I have automatic transmission and heard it can effect the lock-up).
Any help is appreciated.
You guys have always been there.
Future goal down the road once I have a garage is to swap my quadrajet to TBI.

Hey Phil.
If the NOx is still high(er) you may have a partially clogged EGR passage in the intake manifold. I'm running an Edelbrock now because cleaning the old one out was futile.
You also may want to see what your timing is set to. I think I had to reduce my timing a little bit on the last go-around with the emissions station. It's pretty easy to check it and I think the 86 LG4 is either 0 or 6 deg BTDC stock. I can say with experience the LG4 is a little easier to pass with less base timing (than the L69)
In the words of Smokey Yunick, most carburetor problems, aren't.
You can look up your results (if you want to share more detail / numbers) by using the state's history lookup: http://65.82.88.75/myazcar/histinq.exe/muinput
If you want to check your base timing and talk shop, I'm a little bit north on the 101.

Got collectors insurance! WOOOO.
No emissions for me.
Still plan on hitting up Carbs Unlimited for some correct tuning and work on the quadrajet etc.
Cheers & thank you.
