Winter/Spring project up and running

Pulled the engine and tranny this winter. I had Roslans Performance in Paso build the engine. Same guy that did Jasons. Excellent work. 383,splayed 4-bolt, Callies Dragonsllayer crank, J/E pistons, Eagle H-beam rods, Comp lifters/pushrods, SFI balancer and flexplate, valve job/freshen Trickflow heads, 218/224, 520/520 cam , Childs Albert zero gap rings, you name it. Oh yea, to top it off, Superram baby. And a new Pro-Built tranny. Fired it up last Sat. with the help of my buddy Dwayne. No problems. 100 miles so far and no runs, no drips, no major mishaps. Afew tuning issues, nothing major(crossing my fingers). Them bfg's will be screaming in agony once its got a few more miles on it!

All polishing was done by Jason's Hot Rod Shop in Paso. He does a pretty good job and will work for car parts. No money tree here, but I did sell my 67 Camaro to finance the project. Both cars were begging for money, so one of them had to go. Ive always liked the Iroc best, been in the family since new. I know my Dad is looking down with a big grin on his face, wait till he see's a burn out!

Ugh! You kept those POS headers...

With all that work you did I figure you would spend the extra for a good set! All that boost going in and a big bottleneck for it to try to get out.

Anyway, its looking good Jeff! Congrats on getting it going. I'll be looking forward to tuning it, if you need me.

I think it looks great! Sounds like a great buildup but have to agree with Kevin91Z, you should have got different headers.

Jerry, so far I am pleased with the tranny. I only have 250 miles on the thing so I have not fully tested it yet. I have not done a full throttle run from a dead stop. I have done alot of rolling blasts and am pleased with the firmness of the shifts. Especially the 2-3 shift. It is not mushy or slow.It happens right away, and you can feel it. Still have not tried out "passing" gear yet. Around town at normal cruising speed it shifts on time and is very tame. I have the 2800 Vigalante and am pleased with it. Here again, around town it is tame, punch it and it jumps to that 2800-3000 rpm power band and takes off. I am still learning the personality of the new engine. The tranny is kind of along for the ride. It will take some getting used to also. Just like getting a new toy, only big kid style. That didnt sound to stupid? Did it?

Just wondering what you're going to tell the guys at your next smog inspection? -89IRO

Should pass smog. Everything is smog legal. Cam is not smog legal, but is smog "friendly" and should not be a problem. I will de-tune the car, do my normal presmog checkup, put on my smog test only cat and give it a try. We'll know by the end of June.

Oh I see, the turbo and intake are C.A.R.B. legal, but the some internals aren't but they will never know about those. Like they will never know it's a 383 right? -89IRO

It's a supercharger, not a turbo

Ok, whatever, that wasn't my point anyways. I was just asking if he is able to pass smog with that combo only because they won't know that it is a 383 and that it has a healthy illegal cam. But as long as supercharger and intake and if he has headers are smog legal, he shouldn't have any problems. -89IRO

Why aren't you running with an intercooler with that supercharger? -89IRO
