The cancer is spreading
For those who missed this months Car & driver article about radar cameras in England and a suburb of Phoenix, on tonights news Beverly Hills announced that they will be installing radar cameras.
England has 6000 of these cameras and 2500 are mobile, they generate 144 million pounds of revenue every year. in Scottsdale they say the cameras pay for themselves in less than 5 months.
I guess cameras dont qualify as a speed trap.
Beverly Hills calls it keeping up with technology.
Guess what I call it.

are these cams for intersections or are these on the side of the road?
Switzerland has had camera's for over 15 years.. in the tunnels, in the roads themselves.. on top of buildings.. england followed.
There are some intersection cams in costa mesa, newps and Irvine, but I have yet to see the ones on the driving streets anywhere in the US yet..

Comes down to the revenue they will make, plus the "service" they claim they are providing to the community
No more being witnessed by a police officer, some schmuk making min wage sends you a ticket.
Calif law had to be rewritten to allow citations to be issued by red light cameras.

The future sure is going to be fun.. I believe we should keep advancing the best we can, same for our 3rdgen's.. They will see there good day.. We just have a lot of work to do.. Like I mentioned they can't just let us have a pass.. We should be doing good when Camaro is back.. And there is a reason for it.. Rather some like the vehicle or not.. I do keep in mind that they are probably still searching for the Ultimate future Camaro design.. The platform is already there..

I grew up in New York City and moved to Florida about 2 and half years ago, up in NYC they have cameras at some intersections. If you run the light you see a bright flash in your mirror and 10 days later you get a nice picture of your car cruising a NY street. Oh Yeah, the picture is accompianied by a big fat NYC red light ticket! They started with those like 54 years ago.

Some intersections actually give you advance warning that the nearby intersection is photo enforced. The one that comes to mind is the camera at Wilshire Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd., they have signs posted as you're approaching the intersection. However, none of the intersections here in Long Beach (there are at least 4 or 5 that I know of) that use cameras give you advance warning. Then again, if you saw how ridiculous the camera systems that LB uses look, you really don't need signs to warn you in advance- you can see the darn things from about 2 blocks away.
Anyone tried this yet? ↓↓↓

Watch your speed and you don't have to worry about it, that's what I do now...
There was a time that I had my license taken away for too many tickets, I decided that I liked to hold onto my cash and not give it to the state of CA, so I stopped speeding on the streets.

There was a ruling recently and I know they said the actual intersection that had red light cameras had to be marked rather than just a sign at the city limit.
I dont like it. Friend of mine used to live right next to an intersection, those lights do all sorts of weird things so the camera would too.

Ya,
Alot of people are upset about those cameras here in Arizona (Scottsdale).
The company that installs them makes a killing on every ticket.
Just like the city does. The city pays the company a set amount of money for every ticket.
Funny thing though, a ton of people still speed right where they are located!
Just the other night on the news, the news sent out a reporter to interview some speeders who were clocked at over 100 mph! Some were clocked at 140mph! Stupid, if you ask me.
I guess people just want a peice of paper stating how fast they are.
George

Horses? Yippeee
They have the option of posting signs at every entrance to the city or at the intersections. In LA posting at the intersections is way cheaper, Where Santa Ana is posting at the entrances to the city, very poorly I might add.
The bottom line is that they are cash cows. Money growing in ugly boxes on metal poles. If I put a bird house up in my front yard that was that ugly the city would be on me in a heartbeat.

i remember reading about a court ruling that there had to be a sign placed before each camera, no matter what. problem is, i dont think a single sign was put up until people fought it(for each location) in court. thats why you'll still see all kinds of camera's with no warning signs. its all bs if you ask me, i dont think the founding fathers even imagined that we could ever be policed by machines, and i dont think many of them would like it. just drive with sunglasses and the visor down all the time, and buy the plate protector stuff(if the camera uses a flash, they can work 100%, if its just the angle polarizing thing it will work too as long as that angle is maintained). if they cant prove it was you driving the car you get off, if they cant read the plate then you dont even get bothered. I'll fight that kind of bs through any legal means available(and will consider others, lol).

All the camera'd intersections I've seen here in Santa Ana (and I am keeping track now!) have a sign with a picture of a light signal and says "traffic light enforced" about 60' from the intersection.
One of the intersections changes so quickly, even if you are the only car in the turn lane, that I avoid it altogether.
(I think it's the one that caught me, too, that ONE DAY I had a front licence plate on the car.)
Since I took the plate off again, I've had some 'near misses' but I haven't seen any camera flashes, and nothing came in the mail...yet
Naft: in the letter that came with my ticket, they say if they catch your car and you aren't driving, then you have to provide that other person's info so they can be ticketed. And you can be fined for letting an unlicensed person drive your car!

Think about this way too — on the streets where street racing takes place, they set up cameras and they can catch more racers without sending police cruisers into the area or doing the sting operations.
Just let 'em race and send them a nice fine in the mail.
Who knows when/where this will all end. Our economy is consumer driven. Buy, buy, buy. That's what our economy relies on. However, more and more people are getting replaced by machines or cheap foreign labor. How can you buy stuff to keep the economy strong if you can't earn a decent living?
