Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
Irwindale! I really want to go, but I'm having trouble finding some one to cover for me at work!
I just picked up a new set of (street) tires today, because my front tires had no tread left -they'd never have let me run (on any of the drag strips)

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
I saw a couple third gens, a red one with a black hood that I've seen before, a white T-tops, a dark cherry camaro with rims that raced, and Vincent.Vincent did fine.
I made 4 runs, won all 4. None were really perfect, but I got a new best: 1.859 60', 8.43 1/8 at 81 mph.
The new torque converter works great!!! A real hole shot!

Here are the density altitudes from last night at Irwindale. I had no idea that the track elevation is only 250'. I thought it was higher. It has better air than I had thought.

i ran a 8.33 at 83 mph an run the quarter in 12.71 at 113 mph with a 1.93 60' in my last car but that was with slicks an spinning the rims inside of them . sounds like you got a fun street car running those times on street tires .

"just imagine how much faster you would have gone with a ls1 =D"
We will run against quite a few on Sunday at the Los Angeles Invasion and we shall see how it goes. There was an LS1 powered 3rd gen at Bakersfield a couple of years ago and I think he ran a 13.5. Not sure what if any mods he had except for the exhaust and CAI. So not necessarily so. Bottom line it is all in good fun.

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
Allen you need to try Irwindale the conditions are always right!
The last time I raced at Irwindale (June of '08) I got a 8.7 at 77 mph.
I went on to get a 13.29 at 102 mph at Fontana, which is still my best. On THAT run it shows an 8.4 in the 1/8...
So who knows? My car is definitely suited to Irwindale, because it's all low end and torque.

Yeah, I might just do that after I get the new intake on and dyno tuned. I will see if I can get a 100mph time slip in the 1/8". This of course depends on how well the new intake works out.
By the way no practicing needed for my driving skills. I just need to "stab and steer".

And you don't even have to steer until the front tires come back down, about 1.5 sec.?

That's would be cool if you could beat your record... Wish I would take my car down the track but I have a few things that are preventing me from downing that

88 mph at 1/8 is capable of low 12's in the 1/4. Should be close to 112-114 in the 1/4. My buddy's HSR 360" motor went 7.9's at 88 in the 1/8 and 12.2 at 112.xx on a fairly warm night. Lots of valve float on that setup so top end was no existant.

Im not ready for the track yet but Its time for some headers or a cam. The lack of hp in my stock ls1 made some damage and hurt some feelings out here

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
The last time I ran my car at the track was in the 1/8 back in2010. First run I hit a 91mph with a 2.1 60foot. I improved by my third run. so i am assuming it would be in the 11s out there?? lol nice how are the tracks out there in comparison to cali

Texas is low altitude but since its hot and humid during most of the year, its still got decent DA level. Its supposively 669 ft above sea level, and right now its 88 deg 59% humidity...DA is 3146 ft... So cars dont run well right now, need to wait til winter.
91 mph is pretty good 1/8 mile and should be into the 11's. My 383 first time out ran 11.67 at 116 and I think it was 91-92mph in the 1/8 with a DA somewhere in the mid 2500 range? I'd have to look up my threads. Best ever was 93mph 1/8 and 119 mph 1/4 mile, 11.47 ET. That was in Pittsburgh PA, 1200 ft above sea level, high 70's low 80's deg day but low on humidity. DA is usually 2500-2800 in the summer, and anywhere from 188-1600 winter from what I seen last 3-4 years

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
TPITerr, so Vince traps 88mph with a highly modified H/C/I TPI and you trap 91mph with a bone-stock LS1 at the same track? That explains why you pulled him on the top end

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
You guys may claim his car is stock but is weighs at least 400lbs lighter than mind(engine, no rear seats, hood, driver). That will make a difference. Oh yea when he race me his car was slow to me. That why he got pulled on. We can do it again whenever he's ready. Oh by the way, never assume a Mod TPI can't beat a bone stock LS1. 3rd gens are lighter than 4th gens. A fully bolt on 4gen cant beat a few bolt on 3rd gen because of weight.

just exhaust, intake and i guess a driver mod.
as for weight the car sits on 18s, 14" big brakes, FULL leather interior front and back seats, complete a/c hvac system in place. it is a bit lighter and that's a good thing isnt it ??
i don't need to post a vid.. and im not saying your slow, im just saying you DIDN'T smoke me like you said you would. no hatred towards any TGO members its all about having fun and keeping the 3rdgen community alive and active.
the car is sitting there and its up for a run or two.
not sure if it is going to stay the same or get any faster this summer.
got nothing to prove im all in it for fun.

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
I get people defending tpi and I get people switching to a ls1 it comes down to your cash on hand what you want to prove to people
Tpi's are way more expensive to make fast so people swap in a ls1 its cheaper but if you want to prove you can be fast with anything tpis the way to go
However a stealth ram or any other setup then long tubes really isnt a tpi anymore

Can we please stop with the LS1 vs TPI debates? They're really getting old. Just about anyone can make just about anything fast with enough knowledge, time, and effort. Just look at the imports.
As TPI TERR said, its all about the thirdgens.
Feel free to call each other out and challenge each others CARS to race, but please, lets not attack the person or the engine.

Wait, so your car is highly modified with aftermarket heads, custom cam, custom ported intake, headers, etc, etc. and you are complaining about TPI Terr not being stock because its lighter after the LS1 swap??
I'm just saying, if i had a bone stock LS1 in my 3rd gen that kept up with a built TPI I would be pretty proud
I guess we can only wait for the rematch on video once TPI Terr gets some headers You still thinking about getting that supercharger?

Re: Going to Irwindale Drags This Thursday
His car seemed slow to you, yet you admitted(@LA Invasion) that you couldn't even pull a full car on him and you had to let off at about 120mph when his top end was pulling you and you ran out of gear? Interesting.
