Somebody stole...

The year sticker from my license plate. I did not help things by putting the new stickers over old ones (almost thirty years' worth). Had to go to AAA and pay $19 for a new one.

The clerk told me that if the sticker is illegible you can be ticketed for that. So, when I was putting the new sticker on I realized that the almost-thirty year old month sticker is more than slightly faded. Back to AAA. At least that sticker was free!

Re: Somebody stole...

I was in DMV the other day and some old man started to talk to me about how his stickers keeps on getting stolen and that he replaced 4 in 1 year already, I asked him if he cut it up after he applies it to the plate, you should have seen his face, it was like I gave him a million dollars lol

Um, If some bozo doesn't see the cuts (night time) and peels part of the sticker off..... You still have to replace it right ?

True, but at least he doesn't get the use of it either. I thought it was a good idea.

Re: Somebody stole...

I freaked out when my dad cut the sticker on my first car, (OMG he attacked my license plate with a razor blade!) but I've not had a sticker stolen either.

Re: Somebody stole...

I cut my stickers and cover the plates with clear covers. But check your local laws before you do it as some areas do not allow covers over the plate.

Re: Somebody stole...

I cross-cut my year stickers and keep it to just one or two years deep. I've also put tamper resistant screws to mount the plate. I had the plate stolen from my Dodge truck many years ago. I need to get tamper-resistant screws for the license of my new Dodge.

Re: Somebody stole...

The beginning of the new year is when this is on the radar for cops as it's easy to spot old tags. So theives are looking for easy replacments.

I drive a truck so I'm on the road alot and see people getting pulled over for tags quite a bit....... I also notice when people are hanging back ( they don't what to get ahead of a cop so he can see their tags ) saw a woman in a mini van doing this the other day. If the tags are out more than 30 days ... you get towed.
