UMI Performance, Inc.
Weld-In Tunnel Mounted Torque Arm for the 1982-2002 Camaro/Firebird

P/N 2235 & 2236 priced at $429.99

UMI Performance, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of our new weld-in torque arms for 3rd and 4th Generation GM F-body cars. UMI’s traditional bolt-in tunnel mounted torque arm is already an industry leader with regards to reliability, fitment and performance. This weld-in solution brings UMI’s quality and performance to your 3rd Gen application in addition to offering another mounting variation for 4th Gen cars. The universal fit mount is manufactured with extra width to allow custom installation with both UMI and other brands of 2-point subframe connectors. Two models are available and both have pinion angle adjustability – P/N 2236 is for stock and “tucked” exhaust while P/N 2235 is for long tubes, off-road Y-pipes and other larger exhaust systems. The strong 1-1/2” DOM tube construction and Made In USA craftsmanship combined with tough red or black powder coat will ensure many years of trouble free service and hard launches. Please note welding of the brace to 2-point subframe connectors is required for installation. UMI proudly designs and manufactures all of our products in Philipsburg, PA – USA.

Re: UMI Performance New Product- Weld In Tunnel Mounted Torque Arm for 82-02 GM F-Bod

Dumb question time. Does the torque arm mount to the cross member with 2 plates, the same way that your other torque arm systems mount? I'm asking because I don't see the plates in the pictures above.

This type of mounting is what I'm referring to:

Also, your website description states that the shorter torque arm provides better traction for launches, but what impact does it have on handling? My car is a multi-purpose car that may just as likely wind up at an autocross event as the drag strip. What impact would it have on ride quality?

I'm curious to the mounting as well. Does the cross bar weld on to your subframe connectors or are there additional plates? I have a 700R cross member and torque arm from you all right now, but picked up a 4L80. So now, I either hack up the parts I have that haven't made it out of the bubble wrap or pick up this weld-in and fab a custom cross member.

Interested in further info and opinions.

No answers to these questions? Im interested in purchasing one of these soon .I'd like to know if the crossmember provided will weld to Spohn sfc's and I'd like to see some pictures of how low the dipped one hangs as my car is lowerd.. And last will the shortness hurt handiling much? My main reason for this is I'm using hawks t56 xmember for exhaust clearance and it does not have a torque arm provision. It's mainly a street car that sees long road trips from time to time

Re: UMI Performance New Product- Weld In Tunnel Mounted Torque Arm for 82-02 GM F-Bod

Hello,

Yes this welds to SFC's. It will weld to virtually any brand. We leave the crossmember bar long on purpose so you can cut it to fit your SFC's. The plain steel triangular plates shown weld to the SFC's and they cross bar then welds to them. The torque arm used in the kit is the same torque arm used in all our shorter kits, the plates are included just not shown in the picture.

The dipped crossmember height depends on where you install it. You can raise it and lower it, you can also rotate the cross bar back which in returns rotates the dip closer to the floor.

The shorter torque arms are more drag oriented but very streetable. We recommend the longer torque arm for handling. But also handling is in many forms. Twisties on back roads compared to every weekend road course are different.

Just a quick note, installation of this item requires some fabrication skills and welding.

Let me know if I can help anymore. Thanks

How long is the arm? Not including the bracket. I'm tryin to get an idea where the crossbar will be

Re: UMI Performance New Product- Weld In Tunnel Mounted Torque Arm for 82-02 GM F-Bod

wanted to ask.

a few other makers of aftermarket parts are Zink plating before Powder coating. for a full rust protection. even if the powder coating gets a chip. it will never rust.

is this somthing ya might offer? as the zink coating is a low cost thing..

(zink) yellow or silver
the same thing ya see on alot of aftermarket oil pans/flexplates/carb linkage/bolts in your pics.

or can we order a part from you in the raw?(no coating) so we can plate it?
as iv had my camaro for 22 years now. and some times it set for years locked away.
