clunking, popping, when going in reverse

right as i disengage the clutch and start rolling backwards i hear a clunking noise. could this be the struts need to be replaced? sometimes when i stop i hear it too. not on take off though. i figured that when the weight transfers down on the front end it causes the struts to make that noise because they are old. is this a common symptom off bad struts? my ball joints are going out too becuase when i cut the wheel real hard at low speeds it wobbles and pops.

I'd check your ball joints and tie rods first, then tranny mount. If these are worn bad, you'll get all kinds of noise.

Is the tranny mount the rubber bushing thing on top of the back of the trans?
Thanks

Check all your crossmember to frame bolts. I have seen these work loose causing it to shift back and forth making a "clunk" noise when braking in reverse. You should be able to tell if the washer/bolt head has been moving.

Also, check your top strut mounts by removing the plastic cap and shining a flashlight into the cup. If the rubber looks cracked or broken, the mount is bad and may be shifting enough for metal to hit metal.
