horrible poping sound.. loose axles?

k theres this really cool poping sound if you take a turn with the car and when i put it on a lift and you pull and push on the wheels theres a poping sound coming from in back of em..at first i thought maybe my wheels were just loose but no such luck.. i know little to nothing about rears so im stumped.. both sides of the car make this sound if you wiggle the wheels.. any ideas? im about to drive this pos off a cliff

since you have it narrow down to the rear end, sounds like you may have worn out bearing... the axles cant really be loose their either in their or they come out.. i believe they are held in by c-clips..

take you rims off and get as close as possible to where the axles come out of the rear end...

i dont know much about rear either, just a guess....

thats sorta what im guessin... ugh... would worn bearings cause that sort of movement? outward and inward?

Most drum brake cars do this. The axels are held in place by a C clip inside the differential. 9bolt B&W have axel retainers on the outsides of the rear end (4 bolts and a plate) A little movement on 10 bolts is normal, but if is to the extreme that you feel axels shift while driving the car, then your clips and bearings should be replaced. If so, I recomend just getting a 4th gen rear end(A 98 or newer have the best brakes that ever came on the rear of an F-body). V-8 autos have 3.23 and M6's have 3.42.

With C-clips, that's normal.
