Biggest rear tires for 15s

I have the stock 15" Z28 rims, I'd like to know how big I could get without any problems. Any pics would be great. Thanks.

'1986camarojoe' I've been looking for some beaters to fit 15" rims myself. I don't won't to drop on some Hoosiers Race Tires untill it's time.
What I've came up with, was the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500.
Sizes are 295/50SR15 - 275/60SR15 - 255/70SR15 - 255/60SR15.
Very cheap at 90 bucks for the 295, and about 69 for the 255's.
These are not Z rated though, and the only giant 15 there is, other than drag radials(Very tall, & low performance in turns), are Hoosier DOT, which is not really good for the street.
The Hoosiers have about 4/32" material, and are slicks.

Hopefully someone out there might have some better leads.
I would love to have a 15x10-12 Z-Rated performance street tire, like the Firehawk SZ50, or bridgestone RE750.
It seems that every company is capping there Ultra HP tires to maybe a 225 or 255 with 15's.

BTW: I think I could squeeze a 295 under the rear . My Aero 15x10" w/5bs rims fit.
Your rim size is going to tell you how big a tire you can get...Sorry I don't have any info on that.

245/60/15's would be your biggest size(with safety and manufacturer specs in mind).

Im guessing your stock 15's are 7'' wide correct?

I know a guy running 255's on 7'' rims with no problems.

However I had 235s on my old 15'' wheels and it looked horrible. Stuck out so much and they were to tall.

As of friday I'll have 255/50/16s on my 16x8 TTII's

I mounted BFG 295 50 R15s on my stock RS Rims. They look absolutely killer, its too bad they cant house the 315s like the 93s and up. Im looking into getting a set of Convo ET 15x10 Rims for my 90 IROC but I dont know whether or not theyll clear the caliper, and Summit doesnt know what size spacer I need... all is lost.

I have 255/60/15s on the back and 235/60/15s on the front with stock Z28 rims. there have been no problems with the 255s but I like the look of my old 245 rears better. The 255s look too balloonish.

I stand corrected

295/50/15's on a 7" wide wheel? That's scary.

Theyre beautiful and traction is amazing. The walls do stick out like crazy, but they run and look great. You really need to run a bigger differential gear I think to really get the most out of it. Its hard for the stock gear sometimes to turn those big tires right away. I looked at putting a 3:73 in, but I gave it up when I bought my IROC, now Im getting rid of my Red RS Roadhugger.

I have: Dunlop gt qualifiers
Front: 235/60 r15
rear: 275/60 r15
right now i have pretty much stock 305 tbi w/open element, full exhaust(headers, cat, single 3 inch) 700r4 with B&M shift kit no posi though. i can spin a tire forever. i hate it when it rains, i have to take off so slow.
The other day i decided to give a little go down a straight road, shifting betwwen 2 and third i got alot of lateral movement
launches real nice if i dont blip the gas too much. dont get bounce too often.
hopen for posi soon

You can find about any tire here.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ehawk+Indy+500

I've had tires from them delivered direct to my front door with no problems!
If you don't want to buy online from the TireRack, then grab a print out of the tire you want, and run it down to your local Big 'O' or what ever and see if you can get a good price or a price match.
Most of the wierd sizes are going to be special order at most local shops.

275/50R15's on back and 215/65R15's on front, also the car sits about an inch lower than this, it is raised up on the trailer because the exhaust is sitting on the center rail of the trailer

flrtin1, your car is the greatest, but is it tubbed at all? I thought a tire that size would probably stick out the side, but maybe I'm an idiot.

sometimes when at speed if it hit something hard i will get a slight rub.
My apology though, i didnt read all the way through, these are not on stock z28 wheels. They are on standard 15x10s

oh yeah thats something I forgot to say. With the 295's, they only rub when jacked up and the suspensoins hangs. other than that when the car is resting on all its weight everything clears.

I've got the 275/60 r15s on my 84z with a 2 inch lower and the aluminum drums. The aluminum drums stick out a tiny bit further than cast iron drums. I thought for sure i would get some rubbage but I havent had any trouble with em

295 on a stock size wheel is a definet NO. your going to kill yourself hitting cornors, that tire will dismount. that bulge you speak of will have too much play and will dismount the tire underhard cornoring conditions. if your going 295, like i have, do a 15x8 minimum... your playing with your life man

The tires were on my 90 RS stock Rims, but Im getting them placed on new Centerlines that will be going on the back of my 90 IROC. Do you know if Ill need a spacer with 15x6's or x7's on the front end of an IROC after downsizing from the 16"? I'm not sure if the rims will rub the caliper or not.

no problem. just make sure you get a big enough offset so the wheel doesnt sit too close to the well

I wouldn't go no bigger than 255/60/15 because if the contact patch of the tire is not seated properly on the road, it will affect handling big time!
P.S- im assuming your stock wheels are 15x7.

anyone know what the best drag racing tire would be for the stock 15 inch rims? Im looking for a new pair of rears so I'd like to know from your experiance. I drive my car to the track so it would have to be streetable. From what it looks like after reading this thread a 245 or 255 tire would be the best.
