How to install new strut mounts?

Bought some Spohn spherical bearing strut mounts......not really sure how to change them out. Found this post when searching....

To replace Upper
-Jack wheel just off the ground with a floor jack under front lower control arm.
-Remove Strut to Upper Mount Cover and Nut.
-Remove Upper Strut Mount to Wheel house tower nuts.
-Replace Upper Strut mount and tighten upper mount to wheel house tower nuts to 20 ft-lbs.
-Tighten Strut to Upper Mount nut to 50 ft-lbs.
-Get car realigned

If you are jacking the wheel off the ground with the jack under the control arm.......why even bother with that? Isnt that the same as it still being on the ground? Seems like you wouldnt need a jack.....just open your hood, and swap everything out. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I jack up the subframe to where the tire is just barely touching the ground. Then unbolt the strut nut, swap out mounts, then put the strut nut back on. You dont want the tire off the ground completely because the spring will be pulling the strut down. You also dont want to do it with the car on the ground because the strut will be pushing up on the mount.

Car: too many ...
I would jack the car up by the front k-member, place jackstands under the chassis by the trans tunnel on each side to support the car, then use the floorjack under the control arm to control the compression of the spring/strut. When I did mine the first time I had the suspension completely unloaded, I wasnt sure if the strut would want to shoot out through the tower if the suspension was loaded and I undid the mount to tower bolts (3 bolts). I've done it the same way ever since. Whichever way you do it, I would say loosen and tighten the actual strut to strut mount bolt when the mount itself is still attached to the tower via the 3 bolts. It was easier for me to get leverage that way but everyone is different. I dont remember the exact torque specs for sure but I think they were 25 ft/lbs for the mount to tower bolts (3 of them) and 75 ft/lbs for the strut mount to strut bolt.
