I've a 91 Z with a supercharger, AFR heads, sub frame connectors, LCA relocation brackets, LCA's, panhard rod.....Everything has been done to my Z. I can't seem to get traction no matter which tire I run. I"m currenlty using Bridgestone Potenza RE750's on the back and Need new tires for the front. I'm going to put my rear tires on the front in anticipation of some "sticky tires" on the back.

I am considering for the rear tires

Nitto 555R's
Eagle F1 GS-D3
Yokohama A520's I dont think they make these anymore and have replaced them with the Yokohama sport which have a less stickier compound.

I want a little life out of my tires..maybe 15K pushing the nittos, but i'm ok with that

I've read a lot of people who have the F1's love how sticky they are, and there is where my problem lies. Comming out of the hole from a dead stop is difficult due to wheel spin! I could care less about corners.

sticky+tread life=not happening. i'd say at least drop the cash on some BFG Drag Radials.

I really dont care too much about tread life. I like the fact that the nitto's have a tread life of 10-15k. I have read a few threads about the Eagle F1 GS-D3's and they are acutally stickier than the nittos. I'm looking for a street tire that has a life of 15K, sticky as possible for a street tire. I plan on putting in a ford 9 inch and then running slicks at the track in the near future. But I do want a streetable sticky tire for the street. I"m looking for a tire comparable to the nitto 555r and I think the eagle F1 may or may not be it?

i have 245/50 BFG G-Force T/A KDWs on mine, and i LOVE them. sounds like you may have a little more power than i do (i've got 330-350 HP), but mine hooks pretty well.

you didn't mention it, but do you have a factory torque arm?i got a spohn torque arm, and launching it was like night and day.

The tire I was considering was the Nitto 555r because it was a "drag radial" and many people have had good success with that tire. Then I read a few posts about the Eagle F1 sc-g3's. Many people who have these tires say that they hook up as good or better than the nittos. I used to have a 91 corvette and I put the birdgestone PSO2's on it. That car really, I mean REALLY hooked up with thoes tires. The new Eagle F1's look very similar to thoes tires. I don't think they make the PSO2's anymore, if they did, I know I would purchase a set!

I do want some life out of my street tires, somewhere around 15K is fine. I've not heard much about the Kumho DR's. I have heard plenty of postive things about the Nittos for everyday driving & performance off the line.

As far as the bfg KWD's, I have had my fair share with the BFG's and I have never been that impressed. I owned a set on my vett and when I switched over to teh POS2's, NIGHT and DAY! My PSO2's gripped 10x better in the rain as my BFG's did in the dry..NO KIDDING. That is why I"m interested in teh Eagle F1's, but I want to hear some other's experiences with these tires.

What kind of sticky are you looking for? Dragracing off the line traction or roadracing lateral/transition traction? Gonna be used on the street or track only? And also, what size wheels will you be using? The Potenza S02 tire you've already tried in the past would have been one of my choices for a dry condition roadracing type application. Or if your application will be streets and track consider the S03 because they are much better in wet conditions than the S02 (and almost as good if not just as good in the dry). But in any event, getting a wider wheel and tire setup is generally considered a good move towards more traction. So if you're still rocking 8" wide and 245's, then that might be something to consider before buying new tires.

BTW, they still do make S02's.

I've soo much power that traction off the line is really difficult! I'm not too concerned about cornering performance as I am as preformance on launching my car. Im running stock wheel/tires; 245 50 16's.

they discontinued the PSO2's. I think you still can get them in the 17 series only, but they are still hard to find. I have not heard either way about the SO3's. I really think I may go with Eagle F1 GS-D3 as they are pretty sticky and have a similar tread pattern as the SO2's.

What width of tire are you looking at? You probably need wider wheels and a really fat tire to get that engine's power to the ground. How fat were your current tires?
And adjustable torque with a non tranny mount is probably a very good bet. Set your pinion angle fairly low and see if that helps. Shagwell swears by a very low pinion angle for a hard launch from his manual trans car, we're talking -6* here.

I want to keep my stock rims for everyday driving, so the tire size will probally be 245 or 255 50 16's.

I'm going to have to look into the adjustible torque arm. How does one go about setting the pinion angle? My torque arm is stock

You buy an adjustable torque arm - it'll come with instructions on how to set it and how to measure it.
Check spohn, there are others too..

i just have an edelbrock unadjustable TA on my car for now and it's still like night and day from a stocker. My dad has a sphon TA on his 94 and that thing is amazing. I would highly recomend spohn

Personally i would go with the eagles. Ive never liked nitto and every pair ive ever put on someones car has been trouble. Goodyear has a large selection of good tires and ill bet the F1's are gonna fall in line with that. I belive the have the best rating for a performance tire at Sears Auto so thats an intreaguing fact. But hey as long as u dont run Hankooks ure good with me.

The only tires I'd recommend for great traction won't work in the rain, so you're going to have to compromise. M/T drag radials hook well on the street, but I wouldn't want to be caught in the rain with them.
